Bail was set at $500,000 on Wednesday for a Chicago man charged in the attempted kidnapping of a woman in Orland Park, police said.

Sofiane Mansouri, 34, of the 1200 block of West 31st Place, was taken into custody and charged Tuesday following the incident early Sunday, police said in a news release.

Police said a woman was walking shortly before 3 a.m. in the 11400 block of 143rd Street when a white box truck pulled up and the driver, later identified as Mansouri, asked if she was alright.

The woman said she was fine and didn’t need any help, police said, then Mansouri drove past her and parked the truck along the side of the street.

He walked toward her, telling her he could help her, and the woman insisted she did not need help before Mansouri grabbed her and carried her back toward the truck, police said. The woman was able to break free and contacted police.

Mansouri turned himself in to Orland Park police Tuesday, Sgt. Wayne Lee said, and the woman identified him in a photo array.

He said police were trying to protect the woman’s identity and saying only that she is an adult.

Lee said that Mansouri worked as a delivery driver but declined to identify the company he worked for. He was making deliveries to locations, such as businesses, at the time, the sergeant said.

Mansouri is due back in court in Bridgeview July 30.
