Following the Texas shooting, Indiana legislators say they won’t consider changing this state’s open carry law that goes into affect on July 1. Is that because they don’t want to lose the millions that they get in bribes from National Rifle Association?
Republicans (including our own Ed Soliday) blame “mental health issues” as the problem behind gun violence, not the unchecked proliferation of guns. Newsflash: It’s their mental health that’s the real issue. With all this carnage, to legalize “permitless” gun carry in the state is absolutely insane.
We now know that police waited 40 minutes before entering the school in Texas were 21 were killed. We also know that three officers failed to stop him outside the school. So please stop with the lie that only a good guy with a gun stops a bad guy with a gun.
Here’s an idea that might sway a few Republicans in Congress to decide that maybe it’s time for stricter gun laws. MAKE them look at pictures of the mutilated children from the latest slaughter. Oh but wait, these people are heartless and unless one of their children is directly affected by gun violence in school they won’t care. Honestly, there’s no getting through to these people. They are only interested in staying in power. And no, Ted, having security with bigger guns in schools or limiting schools to a single entrance are NOT solutions to this problem.
In most states, teachers and parents who volunteer at school must submit it to a background check. Gun owners do not.
It doesn’t matter if the shooter in the Texas school shooting was 18 or 88. He had access to a military-style assault weapon. If there were no assault weapons he wouldn’t have been able to kill so many.
I think it’s hilarious that those who are first to complain about restrictive rights for gun ownership seemingly have no problem restricting a woman’s right to choose and restricting what books can be read.
Seems the “patriots” have forgotten that LIFE comes before liberty and the pursuit of happiness in The Declaration of Independence. If you think your liberty and happiness entail free use of assault weapons to take out life, you are clearly mistaken.
Requiring liability insurance to own, purchase, or carry a gun or ammunition is a common sense way to approach gun violence. You couldn’t legally own a gun without the required insurance, just like you cannot drive a car without insurance. Law abiding citizens will be afforded the full rights of gun ownership afforded under the constitution while those who are too much of a liability will not. No restrictive gun laws necessary. Problem solved.
Ted Cruz, the politician who suggested we need more guns to stop gun violence, is also the biggest recipient of donations from gun rights groups. Go figure.
Republicans claim to support police, but when police ask for more restrictions on assault weapons, Republicans ignore them. Law enforcement is outgunned, and asks for help, but gets none. Folks, that’s not supporting law enforcement.
About 40 years ago a baby formula company changed its ingredients and killed babies. Congress acted by passing regulations to make sure baby formula is safe. Abbott flaunted these rules and was forced to close. Now we seem to be blaming the FDA for not catching the problem sooner. We should be blaming Abbott’s QA/QC department for not ensuring the regulations were followed. Don’t Republicans keep telling us that industry can monitor itself?
The Republicans and Trump will never do anything about the school shootings. They need the money from the NRA and don’t care as long as it’s not their kids.
