


Cabrillo College had five football players named all-Golden Coast Conference. Two of them, defensive lineman Michael Thomas and linebacker Tosin Alade were also first-team defensive selections on the All-State Region II team.
Alade (6-foot-1, 215 pounds), a sophomore out of Kenwood High in Baltimore, led the Seahawks (3-7, 3-3) with 86.0 tackles, including 12.5 for a loss of yards. He made 3.5 sacks, forced two fumbles, made one fumble recovery and one interception.
Thomas (5-11, 300), a sophomore out of Marina High, made 19 tackles, including six for a loss of yards.
Jeter Olivares (5-10, 180), a sophomore defensive back out of Seaside High, Brandon George (5-11, 180), a sophomore wide receiver out of St. Francis High, and Nick Klaric (6-4, 255), a sophomore offensive lineman out of Soquel High, were also named all-conference.
Olivares made 41.0 tackles, including 4.0 for a loss of yards, and made three interceptions.
George led the Seahawks in receptions (46), receiving yards (801) and touchdown catches (eight). He also had seven carries for 52 yards.
Boys basketball
St. Francis 84, Pajaro Valley 63 >> Nash Horton recorded a triple-double, and the Sharks won their nonleague game Monday.
Horton scored a season-high 29 points, pulled down 18 rebounds and made 13 steals for the Sharks (7-2), who led 46-27 at the half.
Robert Gomez made four 3-pointers and scored 24 points for St. Francis, and Jacob Jimenez had 18 points and 15 rebounds.
“I think we are starting to understand the intensity we have to play with, and we executed well today,” Sharks coach Robert Gomez said.
Carlos Escobar also made four 3-pointers and scored 27 points for the Grizzlies (1-6). Teammate Anthony Aguirre also made four 3s and scored 18 points.
St. Francis hosts Scotts Valley (4-6) on Friday at 7 p.m.
Pajaro Valley plays Kirby (1-6) at Enterprise Gym in Scotts Valley on Jan. 3 at 7 p.m.
Girls basketball
At Saint Francis 67, Santa Cruz 23 >> Junior Karolina Espinosa scored eight points in the Cardinals’ loss to the unbeaten Lancers in nonleague action in Mountain View on Monday.
Mila Conn and Brooke Alden each scored four points for Santa Cruz (2-6).
The Lancers (8-0) led 43-14 at the half.
The Cardinals compete in Helen Bernstein High’s New Year’s Tournament in Los Angeles on Jan. 2-4.
