Brandon Angel had 15 points and six rebounds as No. 12 Oregon defeated Stephen F. Austin 79-61 on Sunday in Eugene, Ore.

Angel, a 6-foot-9 senior transfer from Stanford, was 4 for 5 from the field and 6 for 7 from the line for the Ducks (10-1), who bounced back from their first loss of the season against UCLA last weekend.

Supreme Cook and Jadrian Tracey scored 14 points apiece for Oregon while Nate Bittle added 13 points in 18 minutes before fouling out.

Matt Hayman led the Lumberjacks (5-6) with 17 points while Keon Thompson added 11.

Oregon shot 47.8% from the field in the first half to take a 37-23 lead, and the Lumberjacks got no closer than 12 points in the second half.

The Ducks have two remaining nonconference games, including a trip to face former Pac-12 rival Stanford on Saturday. Sophomore Kwame Evans Jr. left the game in the second half with what appeared to be an injury to his left knee or ankle. Evans had eight points and five rebounds in 14 minutes.

Oregon got 44 points from its bench, led by Cook and Tracey, while the Lumberjacks had just 13.

NO. 3 IOWA STATE 83, OMAHA 51: Keshon Gilbert scored 16 points to help lead Iowa State to a win over Omaha in Ames, Iowa.

The Cyclones (9-1) started the game going back and forth with Omaha after committing eight turnovers but were able to get on track after ending the half on a 20-2 run.

Joshua Jefferson and Milan Momcilovic each contributed 13 points and two steals for Iowa State. Tamin Lipsey added 11 points and Nate Heise scored 10 points off the bench.

Tony Osburn led the Mavericks (4-9) with 13 points.

The Cyclones scored at least 80 points for a program-record 10th straight game and won their 33rd straight home nonconference game.

CAL STATE FULLERTON 74, DENVER 59: Donovan Oday had 21 points in Cal State Fullerton’s victory at home over Denver.

Oday added eight rebounds for the Titans (4-8). Kobe Young shot 5 of 8 from the field and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line to add 13 points. John Square Jr. had 11 points and shot 2 of 4 from the field and 7 for 9 from the free-throw line.

DeAndre Craig finished with 17 points for the Pioneers (6-7). Nicholas Shogbonyo added 15 points and six rebounds for Denver.

UC RIVERSIDE 78, SAINT FRANCIS (Ill.) 55: Joel Armotrading’s 16 points helped host UC Riverside defeat NAIA member Saint Francis (Ill.). Armotrading also contributed six rebounds and three blocks for the Highlanders (7-4, 2-0 Big West).

Women

NO. 2 UCONN 79, GEORGETOWN 44: Paige Bueckers scored 24 points and Sarah Strong had 17 points, 14 rebounds and five assists to lead UConn (9-1) to a win over Georgetown (6-5) in the teams’ Big East opener in Hartford, Conn.

UConn, coming off a 79-68 loss to Notre Dame, went on a nine-point run in the second quarter and a 14-point run in the third to remain unbeaten at home this season.

NO. 3 SOUTH CAROLINA 78, SOUTH FLORIDA 62: Joyce Edwards scored 15 points while Ashlyn Watkins had 10 points, eight rebounds and four blocks as South Carolina opened a big lead early and cruised to its 63rd straight win at home.

The Gamecocks (10-1) started with an 18-4 burst as Bree Hall and Te-Hina Paopao made two 3s apiece and the Bulls (5-6) could not dig themselves out of the hole.

Edwards, a 6-foot-3 freshman, had her career high to lead the team.

NO. 17 MICHIGAN STATE 68, NO. 21 IOWA 66: Julia Ayrault had 19 points, Nyla Hampton scored 13 in the fourth quarter, and the Spartans (10-0) used a 14-0 run to rally late for the Big Ten-opening win in East Lansing, Mich. Hannah Stuelke scored 18 for Iowa (9-2).
