


Soquel High’s baseball team scored in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 2-1, walk-off win over visiting Hughson in nonleague action Saturday.
Jake Escalante and Brady Downs each had a hit, one walk, and run scored for the Knights (17-1 overall), who are ranked No. 6 in the Central Coast Section by maxpreps.com.
Every member of Soquel’s starting lineup picked up at least one hit. Cash Moran had two hits for the Knights, who finished with 10 hits and five walks.
Beau Blake and Benji Ocegueda each had two hits for the Huskies (20-4), who are ranked No. 33 in the Sac-Joaquin Section.
Winning pitcher Dylan Hull scattered eight hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out six batters.
Soquel plays at Santa Cruz (10-5) onTuesday at 4 p.m.
Leigh 7, at Santa Cruz 5 >> Cameron Fusari had two doubles, a home run, one walk, and four RBI in the Cardinals’ nonleague loss Saturday.
Fernando DaCosta had three hits, including two doubles, one RBI, and scored twice for the Cardinals (10-5), who are ranked No. 14 in the CCS. Seth Jin had a hit and run scored.
The teams were deadlocked at 3-all entering the seventh inning.
Lance Takamura had two hits, two RBI, and scored twice for the No. 7 Longhorns (15-2). Marcus Glanville hit a solo home run.
Santa Cruz hosts Soquel on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Monte Vista Christian 14, at Del Mar 1 >> Mikie Melenudo had two hits, including a triple, four RBI, and scored three runs in the Mustangs’ nonleague win Saturday.
Aiden McDaniel, Carter Wright, and Parker Brown each had a hit and two runs scored for MVC (13-3), ranked No. 31 in CCS. McDaniel also drove in a run. Wright had four of the Mustangs’ 17 stolen bases.
Winning pitcher Zack Gong gave up two hits and one walk over 4 1/3 shutout innings. He struck out four batters.
MVC hosts Evergreen Valley (8-9) in a nonleague game on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
At Harbor 11, Monta Vista 4 >> Max Falconer and three hits and five RBI in the Pirates’ nonleague win over the Matadors of Cupertino on Saturday.
Robert Andrade had three hits and drew a walk for the Pirates (12-5), ranked No. 22 in the CCS. Cole McCombs had two hits, including a double.
Joseph Murai had three hits, one RBI, and a run scored for the Matadors (12-6). Sravik Sajja had two hits, two RBI, two stolen bases, and scored a run.
Winning pitcher Jaxson Hoye pitched three scoreless innings. He gave up three hits and struck out two batters.
Harbor plays at Scotts Valley on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Salinas 8, at Aptos 3 >> Cole McGillicuddy had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI for the Mariners in their nonleague loss Saturday.
Dom Castillo had two hits, including a double, one RBI, and a run scored for the Mariners. Samuel Garcia had a hit and scored a run.
Benny Ramirez had three hits, including a double and home run, four RBI, and scored twice for the Cowboys.
Aptos (5-10, 2-5) hosts vs San Lorenzo Valley on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
At Westmont 3, Scotts Valley 2 >> The Falcons led 2-0 but gave up three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of their nonleague loss Saturday.
Lukas Bloom had two hits, including a double, one RBI, and scored a run for the Falcons (7-10, 3-4). Bryce McDonnell had two hits and one RBI. Kit Deforest doubled and scored a run.
Brayden Casillas had two hits, including a double, and scored a run for the Warriors (4-14-1).
Scotts Valley hosts Harbor (12-5, 3-4) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Women’s swimming
Coast Conference Championships >> Cabrillo’s Kaylee Gooch, a Harbor High alumna, medaled in three events at the three-day Coast Conference Championships, which ended Saturday at College of San Mateo.
She took second in the 200 individual medley (2 minutes, 18.39 seconds), second in the 400 individual medley (4:53.97), and third in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.52). She broke the school record in the 400 IM and 200 breaststroke.
Gooch qualified in all three events for the CCCAA State Championships, which will be held at Santa Rosa Junior College on May 1-3.
Men’s swimming
Coast Conference Championships >> Cabrillo’s Hunter Huston, a MVC alum, took sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:55.31) and Sam Primavera, a Harbor alum, took fourth in the 1,650 freestyle (19:34.12) at the three-day Coast Conference Championships, which ended Saturday at College of San Mateo.
College baseball
At Cabrillo 5, Ohlone 1 >> Oscar Knapp and Joel Reyes pitched the Seahawks past the Renegades in the teams’ Coast Conference South Division game Saturday.
Knapp, the winning pitcher, gave up four hits and four walks over five scoreless innings while striking out five batters. Reyes gave up one unearned run over the final four innings.
Diego Grabiel had two doubles, two RBI, and scored a run for the Seahawks (16-21, 9-9), who secured no worse than third place.
Carlos Cruz had two hits, including a double, and scored twice. Kaiden Hoapili had two hits and one RBI. Jacob Fiorenza had a walk and scored twice, and Adrian Castaneda hit an RBI double.
Gavin Shaddix had a hit and scored a run for the second-place Renegades (30-8, 13-5).
Cabrillo plays at division champion West Valley (30-8, 16-2) in Saratoga on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., and close the regular season with a home game against Monterey Peninsula (19-18, 7-11) on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

Monterey Peninsula Invitational >> Scotts Valley went 1-1 at the 4th annual Monterey Peninsula Invitational on Saturday, losing 8-0 to Monterey and beating Chico 3-2.
Taylor Wilson had two hits, including a double, and scored twice in the Falcons’ win.
Abby Howell had a hit and run scored.
Scotts Valley (9-5) hosts Santa Cruz (6-7) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Men’s track and field
Johnny Mathis Invitational >> UC Santa Cruz (188 points) took first out of 11 teams at the two-day Johnny Mathis Invitational, which ended Saturday at San Francisco State University
The Banana Slugs’ Levi Laden took first in the 400 (48.82) and Camden Hebert took first in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:29.14).
Arthur Gainant took second in the 100 (10.86), and Evan Hofstetter took second in the 400 hurdles (55.41).
Sotirios Kougiouris took second in the 110 hurdles (15.48) and Erik Dodge took third (15.86).
Jack Richards took third in both the long jump (19-3.50) and triple jump (40-6.75)
UCSC took third in the 4×100 (42.34)
Sean Riedel of Santa Cruz Club took third in the 5,000 (14:49.92)
Women’s track and field
Johnny Mathis Invitational >> UCSC (156 points) took first out of 14 teams at the two-day Johnny Mathis Invitational, which ended Saturday at San Francisco State University
The Banana Slugs’ Caitlin Donovan took first in the 400 (58.64) and Jordan Baden took first in the 5,000 (17:51.69) .
Celine Castaneda took second in the high jump (5-1.75) and third in the triple jump (33-6.75).
Cheryl Chuang took second in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:30.51) and Emma Wirz took third (11:35.50).
UCSC also received third-place finishes from Whitney Porter (discus, 114-5), Amaya Cummins (100, 12.47), Sydney Boyd (5,000; 18:00.17) and its 4×100 relay team (48.97).
Women’s tennis
UCSC 5, at Southwestern 2 >> Meghana Damojipurapu, Melody Ghaffari, Natalie Sprenger, and Chloe Wu earned singles wins in straight sets to help the Banana Slugs win their third straight match in Georgetown, Texas, on Saturday.
The Banana Slugs swept the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. No. 1 Sara Beckman and Sprenger, No. 2 Wu and Ghaffari, and No. 3 Sweden Van Houten and Damojipruapu earned wins.
UCSC (11-6) closes the regular season at Salisbury (9-5) in Maryland on May 1 at noon.
