Fourteen baseball teams from BoCoPreps coverage area earned bids to their various regional tournaments, but after tough competition over the weekend, only Broomfield emerged victorious.
In hosting their own Class 5A Region 5 tournament, the Eagles first blasted No. 28 Fort Collins with an 11-1 showing, and then moved on to blank No. 21 Cherokee Trail, 7-0. While they’ll move forward, Legacy, Erie, Fairview, Holy Family, Mead, Longmont, Silver Creek, Centaurus, Peak to Peak, Jefferson Academy Prospect Ridge Academy, Dawson and Lyons all saw their 2025 campaigns come to an end.
Stayin’ alive
No. 5 Broomfield: The Eagles teased Fort Collins through the first five innings of their opening-round contest, leading just 4-1, then blasted seven runs past the Lambkins in the bottom of the seventh to secure an early victory. They didn’t waste any time punching Cherokee Trail in the mouth during the later game, netting five runs in the third while keeping the Cougars completely off the scoreboard.
Senior pitcher Maverick Scarpella’s 12-strikeout no-hitter against the Cougars helped pave the way toward the state tournament, as did the five hits, four RBIs and home run from senior Caden Williamson. The Eagles will now move on to All-Star Park in Lakewood on Friday, where they’ll face off with No. 4 Fossil Ridge.
Should they win, they’ll then take on the victor of No. 1 Grandview and No. 8 Castle View in the second round of the winner’s bracket.
For whom the bell tolled
5A No. 12 Legacy: The Lightning defense held true in their 2-0 Region 5 loss to Cherokee Trail, but they couldn’t ignite anything from the batter’s box. Senior pitcher Jason Olsen struck out eight over six innings, while junior Chase Hoelting contributed the lone hit. Legacy ended its season with a 16-9 record.
5A No. 14 Erie: The Tigers faced a tall task against No. 19 Chaparral in the first round of Region 3, eventually falling 9-6 to the Wolverines. The Wolverines put eight runs on the board before the Tigers managed to respond, but their efforts lagged in comparison. Senior Jack Carnival chipped in two hits, including a solo home run, as Erie ended its campaign at 16-8.
5A No. 22 Fairview: The Knights rose to the occasion in their Region 6 opener and nearly pulled one over on No. 11 Mountain Vista before losing, 5-4. Juniors Isaac Waymire and Jackson Wier contributed the only two RBIs for Fairview, which completed its spring slate at 13-11.
4A No. 5 Holy Family: The Tigers began their own Region 5 tournament on a high note with a 10-0 thumping of No. 28 Evergreen, but it all came crashing down when No. 21 Severance pulled off the 6-3 upset in the championship game. Junior Brady Anderson led with four RBIs and had a home run in the effort, as the Tigers finished up at 18-7.
4A No. 15 Mead: The Mavericks enjoyed an 11-5 victory over No. 18 Air Academy to begin their Region 2 journey but couldn’t tap into the same juice in their 5-4 loss to No. 2 Falcon in the championship game. Junior Stryker Leick contributed six RBIs in the two-game effort as the Mavericks fell just short of the state tournament at 15-10.
4A No. 17 Silver Creek: The Raptors made the long trip down to Pueblo County for their Region 1 tournament, but found themselves back on the road quickly when No. 16 Roosevelt handed them a 4-1 defeat. They ended their year with a 13-11 record.
4A No. 29 Longmont: The Trojans had to face off with No. 4 Golden in the first round of their Region 4 tournament, and the Demons ensured they wouldn’t advance any further. Golden won 15-0 through 3 1/2 innings and only allowed Zayden Villela to pick up a hit. Longmont completed its spring at 10-14.
4A No. 31 Centaurus: Like Mead, the Warriors made the trip to Falcon for Region 2 but weren’t nearly as lucky. They fell 15-0 to their hosts and only mustered one hit from sophomore Charlie Manning. Centaurus finished its season at 9-14-1.
3A No. 9 Prospect Ridge Academy: The Miners impressed in the opener of their Region 8 tournament, flattening No. 24 Salida with an 8-2 showing. The host, Classical Academy, brought much more firepower to the championship game to win 11-3 and send the Miners packing with a 16-9 final record. Seniors Zeke Bote and Liam Schilling both contributed three RBIs.
3A No. 14 Peak to Peak: The Pumas began their Region 3 road on the straight and narrow thanks to a 7-1 win over No. 19 Gunnison but couldn’t muster enough energy to pull off a victory over No. 3 Coal Ridge in the championship. The Titans won that game with a 15-5 final as Puma senior AJ Greene contributed four RBIs to the two-game campaign. Peak to Peak ended at 14-11.
3A No. 26 Jefferson Academy: The Jaguars struggled early in their Region 7 loss to No. 7 Montezuma-Cortez, scoring all of their runs with one last gasp of their 9-3 season-ending effort. They finished their season at 6-18.
2A No. 14 Dawson: The Mustangs faced a fiery offense from No. 19 Byers from the first round of their Region 3 tournament and couldn’t match that fire in a 14-6 loss. Seniors Dawson Kusel and Henry Cox led with two hits and one RBI each as the Mustangs wrapped things up at 11-10.
2A No. 26 Lyons: The Lions met stiff competition against No. 7 Denver Christian at its regional and fell hard with an 11-2 first-round defeat. Sophomore Zack LaCrosse contributed the lone RBI of the afternoon as Lyons completed the spring at 8-14.
