Jondell Teresa Virginia DeVeaux Wright, formerly of Seaside, CA, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Ivy Park Monterey in Monterey, CA.
Born December 5, 1932 to John DeVeaux and Juanita Conyers, she married Frederick Henson Wright of the US Army in 1950.
They had three children: Dr. Ednita Marie Wright of Syracuse, NY; Scotty Frederick Wright of Pinellas Park, FL; and Teresa Jeanine Merry of Monterey, CA.
The Wright family were stationed in Fort Gordon (Augusta, GA); Baumholder, Germany; Ford Ord (Monterey, CA); and, Taipei, Taiwan. Ms. Wright was active in the NCO Wives clubs where they were stationed.
Ms. Wright was employed as a librarian at Roger S. Fitch and Martin Luther King Junior High Schools, and the Taipei American School in Taiwan.
Ms. Wright was also active in the Catholic Church, notably St. Francis Xavier Church in Seaside, CA and San Carlos Cathedral in Monterey, CA. She served as a lector and song leader for the mass, as a moderator for Catechism and Bible study, assisted with the Cursillo retreats, and helped coordinate several Holy Land pilgrimages. She was also a coordinator of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program at San Carlos Cathedral for many years, welcoming numerous individuals into the Catholic Church.
In addition to her three children, Ms. Wright is survived by her sister, Ruby Randall; brother, Guy DeVeaux; sister-in-law, Juanita DeVeaux; niece, Tara DeVeaux; son-in-law, William Merry; and, her grandchildren: Melissa Wright, Kari Wright, Adam Merry, Dr.
Hillary Merry, Joshua Wright and grand-daughter-in-law Julianne Merry; and her great-grandchildren Santiago Freeman, Aerida Freeman, Aurora Wright, Arthur Merry, and Sylvan Merry.
There will be an Evening Prayer service on Monday, July 14, 2025, starting at 5:30 p.m. at Bayside Community Mortuary, 1610 Noche Buena Street, Seaside, CA 93955.
Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at San Carlos Cathedral, 500 Church Street, Monterey CA, 93940. Reception to follow after the burial at 1:00 p.m. in the San Carlos Cathedral Hall.
