Resident of Emeryville

Sheila Dianne Umeki passed away on December 14, 2024. Sheila's passing came just three months after the loss of her husband, Spencer Jiro Umeki. They were long time residents of Alameda. Sheila was the eldest child of Barbara J. Mackey and is survived by her children, twins, Alexandra and Coco, as well as her siblings: Toni Ayers, Tracy Mackey, Robin Washington, Stephanie Thompson and Ernest Mackey II; her sister-in-law, Donna Umeki and her husband, Mark Greenside. She will also be dearly missed by her 3-year-old Yellow Labrador, Spirit.

At just 21 years old, Sheila relocated to California from Columbus, Ohio. She was one of the first women to enter the computer industry and successfully climbed the corporate ladder. At age 63, she completed her Master of Science degree in project and systems management; one of the greatest accomplishments of her life. Sheila prioritized her co-workers, supported them in and outside of the office, and was dedicated to helping them succeed in their professional and personal lives. She had a way with words and always reminded everyone that "it's not what you say, it's how you say it."

Sheila was known for her warm heart, kind spirit, and positive encouraging words. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend and will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
