Yolo County residents will have the chance to learn about fruit tree care from Bonnie Berman, a UC Master Gardener, at a free, interactive class on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Hanna & Herbert Bauer Memorial Community Garden, 137 N. Cottonwood St. in Woodland.

Presented by the Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), the event will focus on fruit tree pruning, common fruit tree pests and how to control them, as well as tips on how to improve the lifespan of your fruit trees. The class is offered as winter is the optimal time to care for your fruit trees to help them stay healthy and productive.

Pre-registration is required by Jan. 24 and can be completed by contacting Nick Gazda at Nick.Gazda@YoloCounty.gov or at (530) 666-8429. Please dress for cold weather and wear shoes that can get dirty. In the event of steady rain, the class will be moved indoors.

This class is open to everyone and supports HHSA’s mission to educate residents on incorporating more fresh fruits and vegetables into their diets. HHSA offers free community garden classes year-round. For more information about garden activities and upcoming classes, residents can visit www.YoloCounty.gov/Garden.
