Reported gun near school turns out to be Airsoft
High Peaks Elementary School and Boulder Community School of Integrated Studies in Boulder briefly went on secure status on Friday following a report of a man with a gun.
The man reported to have a gun was putting an Airsoft gun into his car near High Peaks, according to Boulder Police Department spokesperson Dionne Waugh.
At 12:49 p.m., High Peaks went on secure status, before it was lifted at 12:55 p.m., according to the Boulder Valley School District’s website. Secure status means students are brought indoors, all doors are locked and no one may enter or leave the building.
This is the second day in a row that Boulder police responded to calls about men with guns that turned out to be false. Thursday, police responded to a call about a man holding a gun and wearing a vest near Fairview High School. Police said the man turned out to be wearing a weighted vest and holding his phone while finishing up a run.
