Resident of San Jose
Robert James Long, age 86, passed away unexpectedly on January 15, 2025, in his hometown of San Jose, California. A lifelong resident of San Jose, Robert was admired for his generous spirit and unwavering dedication to helping others.
A proud graduate of James Lick High School, Robert devoted much of his life to serving the local community. He was an active member of Lions Club International and played a significant role in the Leo’s Club, where he worked tirelessly to support community service initiatives and nurture leadership among young people.
Robert is survived by his wife of 57 years, Valerie Long; his children, Robert Long Jr. and his wife Shelby, and Kristin Thornton and her husband Tim; his cherished grandchildren, Alyssa, Austin and Aidan; and his sister, Arlene Chong. His family was the center of his world, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
A visitation will be held on January 23, 2025, from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m., followed by services at 10:30 a.m. at Saint John Vianney Church, located at 4600 Hyland Ave., San Jose, CA95127.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Robert’s name to the Almaden Super Lions Club to support local community initiatives—a cause that held a special place in his heart.
Robert James Long will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness and dedication to service will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
