Nominations welcome for Cesar Chavez awards
The Friends of Watsonville Parks and Community Services and the City of Watsonville are accepting nominations for their 22nd Annual Cesar Chavez Community Awards. The event will be held in person at 6 p.m. March 28 at the Watsonville Civic Plaza Community Room in Watsonville.
The deadline for nominations is March 15.
The Cesar Chavez Community Awards recognize youth, adults, organizations, and businesses that help make the Watsonville community better.

Fly Fishing Club meeting set for Wednesday
The Santa Cruz Fly Fishing Club will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Aptos Grange, 2555 Mar Vista Drive, Aptos.
In addition to the general meeting, there will be a presentation by guide David Gregory of Yosemite Outfitters speaking about Sierra stream trout fly fishing. The event will also include door prizes and a raffle.

Church outreach event slated for March 30
New Beginning Community Church of Santa Cruz will host its quarterly free outreach event to serve the Santa Cruz unhoused community from noon to 3 p.m. March 30 at the London Nelson Community Center, 301 Center St., Santa Cruz.
The event will feature clothing, toiletries and other usable items. Also, a hot lunch will be served.

The Daisy will hold a special sale of its upscale, resale clothing and accessories from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Curves, 7000 Soquel Drive, Suites 1 and 2, Aptos.

All proceeds from the clothing sale will benefit programs supported by Family Services of the Central Coast, such as suicide prevention, survivors’ healing, senior outreach, and counseling for all ages.

The Santa Cruz Jazz Festival is scheduled for March 15-16 at the Cabrillo College Visual and Performing Arts Complex at Cabrillo College, 6500 Lower Perimeter Road, Aptos.
A $10 button gets you into two days of concerts and clinics and $10 extra for a ticket to see the Friday night concert with trombone player vocalist and composer Natalie Cressman. The tickets for Cressman show must be bought in advance with limited seating

Free talk focuses on ‘Fine Printing in Aptos’
Felicia Rice and friends will present a talk titled “Fine Printing in Aptos: Sherwood & Katharine Carruth Grover and their Grace Hoper Press” from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Aptos Library, 7695 Soquel Drive, Aptos.
Admission is free. The event is sponsored by the Aptos History Museum.
After 25 years working at San Francisco’s Grabhorn Press, Sherwood and Trina Grover retired to Aptos in the early 1960s and continued to produce fine printing in the studio of their Seacliff beach residence. Here, with equipment from the Grabhorn press, the Grovers operated old-style printing presses and set type by hand to manufacture books under their Grace Hoper imprint to the 1980s.
Attendees to this talk will learn more about the Grace Hoper Press from Felicia Rice, proprietor of Mendocino’s Moving Parts Press, who will talk about her early association in Santa Cruz with the Grovers and their Grace Hoper Press.
