Tre Holloman had 17 points, including two free throws in the closing seconds, and No. 12 Michigan State held on to beat visiting No. 19 Illinois 80-78 on Sunday.

The Spartans (16-2, 7-0 Big Ten) extended their winning streak to 11 games, their longest run since the 2018-19 season that ended with Hall of Fame coach Tom Izzo’s eighth trip to the Final Four.

The Fighting Illini (13-5, 6-2) took a 10-point lead in the first half and were trailing by one and had possession when Kylan Boswell turned over the ball with 5.9 seconds left.

Holloman made two free throws on the ensuing possession.

Izzo told his players to foul Boswell instead of giving up a 3-pointer. Boswell made the first free throw and after missing the second intentionally, he got to the ball and shot it from the baseline over the backboard, and the officials waved it off.

Illini star Kasparas Jakucionis was held to season lows in points (three) and minutes (nine) because of foul trouble.

Will Riley came off the bench and scored 19 points.

NO. 18 MEMPHIS 77, CHARLOTTE 68: PJ Haggerty scored 18 points and the visiting Tigers beat the 49ers.

Dain Dainja added 14 points and nine rebounds for Memphis (14-4, 4-1 American Athletic Conference), which bounced back from a loss to unranked Temple 88-81 on Thursday night.

Jaehshon Thomas had 18 points to lead Charlotte (7-12, 0-6), which has lost seven straight.

Memphis shot 58% in the first half and ran out to a 41-25 lead at the break behind a 20-3 run.

NO. 20 MICHIGAN 80, NORTHWESTERN 76 (OT): Valdislav Goldin scored 31 points and the Wolverines rallied to win at home over the Wildcats.

Michigan (14-4, 6-1 Big Ten) rebounded from an 84-81 overtime loss at Minnesota on Thursday.

Michigan made 9 of 10 free throws in the final 1:20 to finish off the Wildcats (11-7, 2-5).

After Roddy Gayle Jr. gave the Wolverines a 65-63 lead with 34 seconds left in regulation, Matthew Nicholson made two free throws with 4.8 seconds remaining to send it to overtime.

NO. 2 SOUTH CAROLINA 101, NO. 13 OKLAHOMA 60: Joyce Edwards scored 17 points as the Gamecocks pounded the visiting Sooners.

South Carolina (18-1, 6-0 SEC) outscored Oklahoma (15-4, 3-3) 28-9 in the opening period.

Sooners All-America center Raegan Beers finished with 23 points and eight rebounds. Payton Verhulst, coming off a 38-point game in a win over Missouri, only scored three.

NO. 5 LSU 80, FLORIDA 63: Mikaylah Williams scored 22 points, Aneesah Morrow had 20 points ans 10 rebounds for her 92nd career double-double, and the Tigers stayed unbeaten with the road victory over the Gators (11-9, 2-4 SEC).

Flau’Jae Johnson chipped in 19 points for LSU (20-0, 5-0), which will carry its second-best start in program history into a matchup at South Carolina on Thursday.

NO. 6 UCONN 96, SETON HALL 36: Paige Bueckers scored 18 points to surpass 2,000 in her career and the Huskies cruised at home over the Pirates (13-5, 5-2 Big East).

Bueckers scored points No. 2,000 and 2,001 on a jumper with 8:05 remaining in the first half. She reached the mark in her 102nd game, breaking the program record of 108 games by Maya Moore. Bueckers is the 12th UConn player to hit that milestone.

Sarah Strong had 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Huskies (17-2, 8-0).

PENN STATE 62, NO.9 OHIO STATE 59: Gabby Elliott scored 14 points, including a go-ahead layup with about 2 1/2 minutes to go, and the host Lady Lions handed the Buckeyes their first loss.
