CU women add former Gonzaga guard O’Connor

Last month, Claire O’Connor helped Gonzaga send the Colorado women’s basketball team into the offseason. Now, she’s the first transfer addition of the offseason for the Buffaloes.

On Friday, BuffZone confirmed a report by Talia Goodman of On3Sports that O’Connor has committed to CU after two seasons with Gonzaga. A 6-foot guard from Bellevue, Wash., O’Connor will be a junior next season, and she has two years of eligibility remaining.

This past season, O’Connor played in 34 games, with 29 starts, for the Bulldogs (24-11), who reached the quarterfinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament after knocking out the Buffs, 64-55, in the second round.

Duke’s Tyrese Proctor to skip senior season and jump to NBA draft

Duke guard Tyrese Proctor is entering the NBA draft and skipping his senior season.

The team announced Proctor’s move in a social-media post Friday night. The 6-foot-6, 183-pound junior from Australia was a three-year starter and one of Jon Scheyer’s first incoming recruits when he took over for retired Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski.

Proctor, who reclassified to get to college a year early in 2022, came on in the second half of his freshman season, then was a complementary scorer averaging in double figures for the rest of his college career.

Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. suspended 1 game

TAMPA, Fla.>>New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. was suspended for one game and fined by Major League Baseball on Friday following his ejection during a game at the Tampa Bay Rays and violation of MLB’s social media policy.

Chisholm appealed, delaying any penalties until after a resolution.

Chisholm was ejected in the seventh inning on Thursday night by plate umpire John Bacon when Chisholm argued after a called third strike.

Chisholm then posted on his X account, “Not even ... close!!!!!” with a profanity mixed in, then deleted the post.

MLB’s regulations ban the use of electronic devices during games. The social media policy prohibits “displaying or transmitting content that questions the impartiality of or otherwise denigrates a major league umpire.”

Ohtani away from Dodgers for birth of his first child

ARLINGTON, Texas >> Shohei Ohtani is away from the Los Angeles Dodgers for the birth of the two-way superstar’s first child. The 30-year-old Ohtani posted on his Instagram account in late December that he and his 28-year-old wife, a former professional basketball player from his native Japan, were expecting a baby in 2025.

Popovich has medical incident in restaurant, is resting at home

San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich is doing well at home after needing medical attention earlier this week following an incident at a restaurant, a person with knowledge of the matter said on Friday.

The 76-year-old Popovich, who missed most of this season while recovering from what the Spurs called a mild stroke, was at a restaurant in San Antonio on Tuesday night when he began not feeling well, the person said.

TMZ Sports obtained video footage of what it said was Popovich being wheeled away from the restaurant on a stretcher and loaded into the back of an ambulance.
