A Broomfield man was found not guilty by reason of insanity after being accused of stabbing his mother to death and injuring a man in his home in 2022.
Joseph Majewski, 35, faced charges of first-degree murder after deliberation; attempted first-degree murder after deliberation; first-degree assault causing serious bodily injury with a weapon; and two sentence enhancers.
Majewski was set for trial scheduled to begin on Friday. However, the finding related to his sanity was made on March 19. In light of the finding, Majewski will stay at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo until a board of professionals determines that his sanity has been restored.
Officers were called to Majewski’s home in the 13000 block of Grove Court just before 5 p.m. Jan 3, 2022, on a report of a disturbance and a stabbing, according to a press release.
Officers found Laurie Majewski deceased inside the home along with an injured man, who was taken to an area hospital. Details about the injured man have not been released publicly, including his name.
