Resident of San Jose

Virginia (Ginny) Lebacqz, loving wife, mother, and friend to everyone she met, passed away peacefully January 10, 2025 at Oakmont of East Sacramento, surrounded by her husband of nearly 55 years, Victor, and her two devoted daughters, Erin and Kristen. The compassion and sense of duty she felt for others, and her legacy of exemplifying unconditional love, inspired everyone who knew her throughout her life.

Ginny was born in Glen Ridge, NJ, and attended Glen Ridge High School. She graduated magna cum laude from Rutgers University with a degree in Economics in 1969, and obtained a Masters Degree in Economics from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1977, followed by a Certificate of Community College Instructor in Economics from the State of California in 1986.

She and Vic were married in 1970, and they moved to Buffalo, NY, with Erin being born in 1973 and Kristen in 1977. In 1978, they moved to Cupertino, California so that Vic could accept a position at NASA Ames Research Center. During the next few years Ginny concentrated on motherhood, but began her community service focus by volunteering to read Junior Great Books at her daughters’ schools. In 1985, she accepted a position as Alumni Director for the College of Business at San Jose State University, a position she held until 1999, during which she initiated several developments for the College and received the Dean’s Service Award in 1995. From 2000-2002, she was Development Director for Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence in San Jose. They moved to Washington DC in 2003 when Vic was selected for NASA Headquarters, and she immediately became a volunteer for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, from whom she won anaward in 2003, and the Carpenter’s Shelter in Alexandria, VA. When they returned to San Jose in 2006, she continued her community service as a Board Member at Next Door Solutions, and as a Master Gardener volunteer at the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden. They moved to Sacramento in May 2023.
