The New York Yankees found their first baseman.

Paul Goldschmidt has agreed to a one-year contract with the club, YES Network’s Jack Curry reported Saturday, adding another former MVP to the Yankees’ new-look lineup.

The deal is for $12.5 million, according to reports.

Goldschmidt, 37, hit .245 with 22 home runs, 65 RBIs and a .716 OPS last season with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The right-handed hitter is two years removed from a 2022 National League MVP campaign in which he batted .317 with 35 homers, 115 RBIs and an NL-best .982 OPS.

Adding Goldschmidt allows the Yankees to play another new acquisition, Cody Bellinger, in center field or left field next season.

Goldschmidt is a four-time Gold Glove winner at first base, while Bellinger is an above-average defender in the outfield.

A seven-time All-Star, Goldschmidt is a career .289 hitter and boasts 362 home runs over 14 MLB seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Cardinals.

He replaces Anthony Rizzo, who repeatedly battled injuries the past two seasons as the Yankees’ starting first baseman. Rizzo, 35, remains a free agent.

Ben Rice, a converted catcher and left-handed hitter, batted .171 with seven home runs as a rookie fill-in for Rizzo last season.

Goldschmidt is set to become the fourth former MVP on the Yankees’ roster, joining Bellinger, who won the National League honor in 2019 with the Dodgers; Giancarlo Stanton, who won it in 2017 with the Marlins; and Aaron Judge, who won American League MVP in 2022 and 2024.

The Yankees remain active after losing superstar slugger Juan Soto in free agency to the Mets.

They signed left-handed ace Max Fried to an eight-year, $218 million contract and swung trades for Bellinger and for closer Devin Williams.

Their addition of Goldschmidt came a day after the Houston Astros agreed to a three-year, $60 million contract with first baseman Christian Walker, who had been considered a Yankees target.

With Goldschmidt at first base and Anthony Volpe at shortstop, the Yankees still have at least one hole in the infield. Jazz Chisholm remains on the roster and is capable of playing second or third.

Last year’s primary second baseman, Gleyber Torres, is a free agent.

D-BACKS GET NAYLOR

The Diamondbacks have acquired All-Star first baseman Josh Naylor in a trade with the Cleveland Guardians,

The Guardians received right-handed pitcher Slade Cecconi and a competitive balance Round B draft pick in 2025.

The 27-year-old Naylor made his first All-Star team this season and hit a career-high 31 homers with 108 RBIs. He’s been Cleveland’s starting first baseman in each of the past three seasons, hitting 68 homers over that span, and will become a free agent after the 2025 season.

The Diamondbacks were in the market for a first baseman after Walker signed with the Astros.

The 25-year-old Cecconi has spent parts of the past two seasons in the big leagues. He had a 2-7 record with a 6.66 ERA last season, pitching in 20 games, including 13 starts.

santana to guardians

The Guardians quickly filled the hole left by Naylor, agreeing with veteran free agent Carlos Santana on a one-year contract.

Santana spent 10 seasons with Cleveland early in his career over two stretches from 2010-17 and 2019-20, starting out as a catcher before moving to first.

The 38-year-old played for the Minnesota Twins last season, batting .238 with 23 homers and 71 RBIs.

He has hit 324 home runs over 15 MLB seasons, with a high of 34 for Cleveland in 2019, when he was an AL All-Star.

The Naylor trade is the second significant move this winter by the AL Central champions, who dealt Gold Glove second baseman Andrés Giménez to Toronto in a three-team swap.

REDS ACQUIRE TREVINO

The Cincinnati Reds acquired veteran catcher Jose Trevino in a trade with the Yankees.

Known more for his defensive ability, Trevino batted .215 with eight homers and 28 RBIs in 74 games for the AL East champions this year. He was a backup by the end of the year after rookie Austin Wells took over behind the plate.

Cincinnati sent reliever Fernando Cruz and catcher Alex Jackson to New York.

Cruz went 3-8 with a 4.86 ERA in 69 appearances this season, striking out 109 in 66 2/3 innings. Jackson batted .122 with three homers in 58 games for Tampa Bay this year. He signed a minor league deal with Cincinnati last month.

The Reds also have Tyler Stephenson at catcher.

Stephenson is coming off a breakout season, batting .258 with 19 home runs and 66 RBIs.

Trevino, 32, made his big league debut with Texas in 2018. He was an All-Star and Gold Glove winner with New York in 2022, hitting .248 with 11 homers and 43 RBIs in 115 games.

RANGERS ADD MILNER

Left-handed reliever Hoby Milner agreed to a $2.5 million, one-year contract with the Texas Rangers.

The sidearm-throwing Milner has appeared in 201 games the past three seasons for Milwaukee.

Milner was 5-1 with a 4.73 ERA in 61 games this year.

He has a career record of 10-5 with a 3.82 ERA over nine big league seasons with Philadelphia (2017-18), Tampa Bay (2018-19), the Angels (2020) and Milwaukee (2021-24).
