Chomp takes on new meaning this season as the San Jose Sharks, SAP Center and their culinary partner, Aramark, have unveiled a huge new lineup of food and drink choices for hockey fans.
Good thing it’s a sport with two intermissions. More time to head to the concession stands without missing the action on the ice.
The lineup includes creative dishes from SAP executive chef Francisco Garcia and local SAP partner restaurants.
Garcia, a Southern California native, joined Aramark a year ago with a culinary résumé that includes the University of Washington’s Husky Stadium, Ball Arena in Denver and cooking for the Special Olympics.
Here’s a sampling:
New from Chef Garcia
Teal Smash Burger >> This classic smash gets an upgrade with a bright teal hamburger bun and garlicky aioli.
Hot Honey Chicken and Waffle Sandwich >> Garcia turns the chicken-and-waffle breakfast favorite into a sandwich — easier to eat — and adds Nashville spice and a drizzle of hot honey. For the coleslaw, he tosses together a combination of kale, broccoli, carrots and cabbage. This sandwich was a big hit at the food unveil for the sports media.
Vegan Smash Burger >> Never have we heard so much praise for a vegan burger — from meat-eaters. Garcia and his chefs create the patty from mushrooms and caramelized onions.
Carolina Gold BBQ Pork Wings >> We’ll have pork wings when pigs fly, right? That day has arrived. These crunchy “wings” come with a slathering of tangy Carolina Gold barbecue sauce and a side of fries.
Loaded Baked Potato >> A potato turns into a filling, value-for-money meal when it’s filled with barbacoa and topped with cheddar, pico de gallo, crema, queso fresco and green onions.
Teal Concha >> The concha, a San Jose bakery favorite, turns teal for a fun dessert here. The sundae comes with vanilla ice cream, teal sprinkles and teal rock candy.
New from sap partners
The Hotboy >> From the gang at Shrimp’n Ain’t Eazy comes a hot link loaded up with shrimp, a cream cheese “bussdown” sauce, cheese and pickled red and green onions. Good and messy. Make sure to grab extra napkins.
Carne Asada Fries >> The chefs at the locally based Arteaga’s grocery stores have created what you might call Mexican-style poutine. In this version, French fries are topped with carne asada, guacamole, cheese, pico de gallo and sour cream.
Shark Bite Pizza >> Bibo’s NY Style Pizza, a local favorite, has introduced a new pizza combo for hockey fans — ham, pineapple and spicy ranch dressing.
Pineapple Fried Rice >> The new bowl from Flor de Pineapple combines chicken, pineapple, egg, veggies and rice.
Spicy Pork Bowl >> BBQ Kalbi, a specialist in Korean fare, is serving up a bowl loaded with meat, rice and kimchi salad.
