Novato, CA With great sadness, our family lost Albert Joseph Nunes, 96, of Novato, CA on March 6, 2025 after a brief illness.
When we think of a life well-lived, we think of him.
Al was born April 17, 1928 in Point Reyes on a family dairy, leaving school in the 8th grade to help support the family after his father passed away.
While working at Truttman Dairy in Olema, Al met his wife, Nora Jean Donahoo. Al and Jean were married on April 19, 1952 in San Rafael.
Al served in the Army for 2 years. Upon his return he had a shoe repair business in San Rafael, after which he began his career as a27 year union carpenter. Al was also a master mechanic, it was well-known that he could build anything.
Al loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, boating, gardening, wine making, and traveling. His greatest passions were his family, the love of horse riding, and cowboy shooting from horseback. Al participated in many local parades with his buggies.
Al, known as the Cowboy of Indian Valley, is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jean; their 2 sons Stan Nunes and Douglas (Jerys) Nunes, daughter Linda (Mike) O’Brien, 5 grandchildren; Christian (Courtenay) O’Brien, Jessica Nunes, Kenny (Laura) Nunes, Conner (Tiffeney) O’Brien, Justina Nunes; 6 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; 4 nephews and 5 nieces. Al had a host of great friends that he enjoyed spending time with.
He was preceded in death by his son Kenneth Joseph Nunes (23).
