


Alexander’s game-winner leads Boston University past Lafayette, 66-64
BOSTON >> Miles Brewster led Boston University with 14 points and Kyrone Alexander hit the game-winning jump shot with two seconds remaining as the Terriers knocked off Lafayette 66-64 on Saturday.
Brewster also added three steals for the Terriers (16-15, 10-8 Patriot League). Alexander scored 12 points while going 4 of 6 from the field. Ben Defty had 11 points and finished 5 of 9 from the floor.
Alex Chaikin led the Leopards (12-19, 7-11) in scoring, finishing with 24 points. Caleb Williams added 15 points and eight rebounds for Lafayette. Justin Vander Baan also put up 11 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four blocks.
The Terriers went into the half leading Lafayette 31-29. Brewster put up six points in the half. Alexander scored nine second-half points for the Terriers, culminating in his game-winning shot.
Reed scores 24 off the bench, UConn knocks off Providence 75-63
PROVIDENCE, R.I. >> Tarris Reed, Jr. had 24 points and 18 rebounds off of the bench to lead the UConn Huskies over the Providence Friars 75-63 on Saturday.
Reed added six blocks for the Huskies (20-9, 12-6 Big East Conference). Alex Karaban added 17 points while going 6 of 13 from the floor, including 2 for 4 from 3-point range, and 3 for 3 from the line and had five rebounds. Solomon Ball went 5 of 9 from the field (4 for 7 from 3-point range) to finish with 14 points.
The Friars (12-17, 6-12) were led in scoring by Jayden Pierre, who finished with 10 points.
Luis scores 21 as St. John’s beats Seton Hall to clinch first Big East title since 1985
NEW YORK >> RJ Luis Jr. scored 21 points and No. 7 St. John’s beat Seton Hall 71-61 to clinch its first outright regular-season Big East title since 1985 on Saturday.
The Red Storm (26-4, 17-2) improved to 18-0 at home as they played in front of their third straight sellout crowd at Madison Square Garden and with coach Rick Pitino sporting a white suit for the second straight season.
St. John’s moved the game to MSG after it was initially scheduled to be played on campus but opted not to cut down the nets to celebrate. After finishing off the win, a montage of highlights played while the team was presented with the trophy for clinching the title as confetti was rained and Pitino gave a brief speech thanking the fans and said: “We’re just getting started.”
Zuby Ejiofor added 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Red Storm shot 43.4% and struggled until the final minutes.
Brooks scores 22 as UMass Lowell knocks off Binghamton 79-53
LOWELL, Mass. >> Max Brooks had 22 points in UMass Lowell’s 79-53 victory over Binghamton on Saturday.
Brooks had five rebounds and three steals for the River Hawks (17-13, 6-9 America East Conference). Quinton Mincey added 20 points while going 8 of 12 (3 for 5 from 3-point range) while he also had seven rebounds. Martin Somerville shot 5 for 10, including 3 for 7 from beyond the arc to finish with 13 points, while adding nine assists.
Tymu Chenery helped lead the way for the Bearcats (15-15, 7-8) with 11 points. Evan Ashe added 11 points and two steals for Binghamton. Ben Callahan-Gold had 10 points.
Both teams next play Tuesday. UMass Lowell visits Maine and Binghamton plays NJIT at home.
