Pompeo cutting back on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ episodes

Dr. Meredith Grey will be cutting back her workload on “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Series star Ellen Pompeo is set to appear in eight episodes of the hospital drama — about a third of the usual per-season number — when the ABC show returns for its 19th season Oct. 6.

Pompeo is reducing her commitment as she prepares to star in an untitled, limited series based on the real-life story of a tangled 2010 adoption involving a U.S. couple.

It’s for the streaming service Hulu, a Disney corporate sibling to ABC.

The network declined comment. Pompeo’s spokeswoman didn’t respond to an email request for comment.

Dev Patel helps stop ‘violent altercation’

Actor Dev Patel isn’t just a man of action on the big screen.

On Monday night in Australia, Patel, known for his roles in movies like “Slumdog Millionaire” and “Lion,” intervened in what his representatives call “a violent altercation” and deescalated the situation.

The incident occurred in the city of Adelaide, according to a release from South Australia Police. A woman and a man began fighting in a street and then continued inside a nearby service station “where witnesses attempted to break up the fight,” the statement said.

The woman then allegedly stabbed the man in the chest. A 32-year-old man was treated at the scene before being taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

“Dev acted on his natural instinct to try and deescalate the situation and break up the fight,” the statement provided to CNN said.

Police said they arrested a 34-year-old woman.

Chesney ‘devastated’ by death at Denver concert

Kenny Chesney is speaking out after a woman died at his concert over the weekend.

Chesney was performing Saturday night at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, where a woman fell to her death from an escalator railing, according to the Denver Police Department.

The country superstar released the following statement, obtained by The Denver Post: “I was devastated to learn of the loss of someone after our show. There had been so much joy, so much heart coming from the people of Denver last night — and to hear this is heartbreaking,” he said.

The death occurred shortly before 11 p.m., at the end of the concert, the Post reported.

The unidentified woman “was sitting on an escalator railing, fell to the concourse below, and died as a result of the injuries. This is being investigated as an accidental death,” Denver police said.
