The NFL Players Association will appeal an arbitrator’s ruling regarding collusion by owners over quarterback salaries, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The person, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity because it’s a legal matter, said the union has been having ongoing discussions with its executive council about the matter. There’s no timeline for a decision that’ll be made by a standing appeals panel made up of three people.

On Jan. 14, arbitrator Christopher Droney ruled there wasn’t sufficient evidence of collusion by owners in contract negotiations with quarterbacks after the Cleveland Browns gave QB Deshaun Watson a record $230 million fully guaranteed contract.

The “Pablo Torre Finds Out” podcast first published the arbitrator’s decision.

Any attempt to collude to keep salaries down violates the collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the union.

49ers WR Robinson pleads no contest to misdemeanor DUI >> Wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, who signed with the 49ers this spring, has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor DUI charge stemming from his arrest last November.

Robinson was sentenced Tuesday to three years’ probation and ordered to pay a $390 fine plus penalty assessment and to complete a series of programs, including a three-month alcohol program and a hospital and morgue program, and not to drive any vehicle with any measurable amount of alcohol, according to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.

Two other charges against Robinson — driving with a 0.08% blood alcohol content or higher and driving without a valid license — were dismissed, according to his attorney, Jacqueline Sparagna.

Robinson was arrested Nov. 25, when he was a member of the Los Angeles Rams.

Knapp shares Scottish Open lead with 64 >> Jake Knapp is loving links golf so much he’d like to extend his stay another week, and he took a step toward that with a 6-under 64 that put him in a four-way share of the lead after the opening round of the Scottish Open.

The blustery conditions at The Renaissance Club were not enough to keep more than half of the 156-man field at par or better, although Rory McIlroy had to birdie his last three holes — and make a 25-foot bogey putt on the 15th hole — for a 68.

Sepp Straka had eight birdies in his round of 64, also joined by Nico Echavarria and Victor Perez atop the leaderboard alongside Knapp. Four other players were one shot behind, while Scottie Scheffler had to settle for a 67 and was three back.

Maguire’s hole-in-one gives her share of 1st-round lead at Evian >> Leona Maguire made a hole-in-one at the Evian Championship on the way to a 6-under 65 in the first round and a five-way share of the lead.

Having started on the back nine at the fourth major of the year, Maguire aced the par-3 second hole — her 11th — at Evian Resort Golf Club, sinking her tee shot from 164 yards.

The Irishwoman was joined on 65 by American duo Andrea Lee and Jennifer Kupcho as well as Australians Grace Kim and Gabriela Ruffels, a former tennis player in doubles.

Minjee Lee, who won the Women’s PGA Championship last month for her third major title, was alone in sixth place after carding a 66.

Semenya did not get a fair hearing in sex eligibility case >> Two-time Olympic champion runner Caster Semenya won a partial victory at the European Court of Human Rights in her seven-year legal fight against track and field’s sex eligibility rules.

The court’s 17-judge highest chamber said in a 15-2 vote that Semenya had some of her rights to a fair hearing violated at Switzerland’s Supreme Court, where she had appealed against a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in favor of track’s World Athletics.

However, on the question of Semenya being discriminated against in Swiss courts, the European court in Strasbourg, France, did not pronounce — to the frustration of four of the 17 judges in a partial dissent to the majority view.

Her case should now go back to the Swiss federal court in Lausanne. It will be watched closely by other sports which have passed or are reviewing their own rules on eligibility in women’s events.
