Ben Rice became the first Yankees rookie to homer three times in a game and drove in seven runs as New York snapped a four-game slide with a 14-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday at Yankee Stadium.

Alex Verdugo added a two-run homer.

Rafael Devers had a homer and two RBIs for Boston, which had its five-game winning streak halted.

Rice led off the game with a drive to right off Josh Winckowski and added a three-run shot off reliever Chase Anderson as part of a seven-run fifth inning. The 25-year-old first baseman capped his day with a second three-run homer off Anderson in the seventh.

“What a game!” New York manager Aaron Boone said. “To set the tone right away in the first inning with a homer and put together a legendary day. Something he’ll never forget.”

After Rice’s third homer, Juan Soto stepped out of the batter’s box to allow the rookie to take a curtain call. Rice had to be encouraged by the entire Yankees dugout to step out to acknowledge the cheers.

“It was all happening so fast,” Rice said. “Thankfully got it in. That was pretty awesome!”

Rice entered the game with one homer in his first 46 big league at-bats. He grew up in Cohasset, Massachusetts and signed the Pesky Pole at Fenway Park as a child, joking that he infamously wrote ‘Yankees Rule.’ Rice noted that the only other time he could recall hitting three homers in a game was in summer league baseball in 2019.

“Definitely a day I will never forget,” Rice said. “Pumped it was a big-time win for us over my hometown team.”

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Rice is the first rookie among the 22 Yankees who have hit three homers in a game.

The Yankees’ 14-hit, 14-run barrage bailed out starter Gerrit Cole, who allowed seven hits and four runs in 4 1/3 innings while striking out eight and walking two.

BRAVES 5, PHILLIES 1 >> Rookie Spencer Schwellenbach gave up one run in six innings, Marcell Ozuna and Ozzie Albies hit two-run homers and host Atlanta topped Philadelphia.

Suárez allowed five runs in five innings in his third consecutive start in which he has given up four or more runs.

Kwan went 2 for 4 to raise his average to .365.

The Guardians have the best home record in baseball at 29-11, winning 18 of their last 23 at Progressive Field.

Tyler Fitzgerald delivered a two-run single for the Giants, who have won eight of their last 12, but failed to get back to .500 for the first time since May 31.

TWINS 9, ASTROS 3 >> Byron Buxton and Brooks Lee each hit two-run homers as Minnesota defeated visiting Houston.

Jon Singleton hit a two-run homer for the Astros, who lost for just the third time in 16 games.

Joe Ryan (6-5) allowed three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings, earning the win after three straight no-decisions.

The Twins jumped all over Hunter Brown (6-6), who had been one of the hottest pitchers in the majors. Over his previous five starts, he allowed just one earned run and struck out 34 in 31 innings pitched.

Brown did complete six innings for the ninth straight outing, but gave up seven runs on 12 hits.

Lee’s two-run homer in the third inning was the first of his career. The Twins’ No. 2 prospect was called up on Wednesday.

The A’s homered in each of the first four innings, with Shea Langeliers and Tyler Nevin also leaving the park. Kyle McCann hit a two-run shot in the eighth. Oakland led 10-0 after two innings and 17-1 after six.

The A’s chased Orioles pitcher Cade Povich (1-3) before he even recorded an out in the second inning. Povich, making his sixth career start and coming off his first career win, gave up eight runs in his shortest start.

A’s starter Luis Medina (2-3) allowed a run and six hits in five innings.

Adley Rutschman hit a three-run homer in the seventh for the Orioles, who scored seven runs in the final three innings.

METS 5, PIRATES 2 >> Luis Torrens had three hits, including a three-run double, and Edwin Diaz got the save after his 10-game suspension ended earlier in the day as New York won at Pittsburgh.

Torrens hit his double in the third inning to break a scoreless tie. The catcher also singled twice as the Mets snapped a three-game losing streak.

Diaz pitched a scoreless ninth for his eighth save in 12 opportunities. Diaz was suspended by Major League Baseball after being ejected from a game against the Chicago Cubs on June 23 for having a foreign substance on his pitching hand.

RANGERS 4, RAYS 3 >> Slumping Texas second baseman Marcus Semien hit his first homer in nearly a month, a go-ahead two-run shot in the seventh inning in a home win over Tampa Bay.

Semien was 3 for 42 over a 10-game span before his homer with two outs against Kevin Kelly (2-1).

That came after Tampa Bay took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh on Yandy Díaz’s three-run homer off Jacob Latz.

BLUE JAYS 5, MARINERS 4 >> Yariel Rodríguez allowed one hit over six shutout innings for his first victory, Alejandro Kirk had three hits and two RBIs and Toronto held off host Seattle.
