Deolinda (Dee) M. Bettencourt Duncan went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 30th, 2024 at the age of ninety-nine.
Dee was born to the late Frank and Rita Bettencourt on April 13th, 1925 in Woodland, CA. She was the second oldest with five siblings – Frank Jr., Manuel, Lucille, Alice, and Ida. She married George Stanley Duncan Jr. on October 8th, 1946. They were married for almost fifty-five years and had three beautiful children together –George Duncan III, Rita Turnbull, and Michael Duncan.
She was baptized here in Woodland and remained an active and devout member of the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church her entire life. She was also a member of the Holy Rosary Young Ladies Institute and served on the Lazarus Committee for many years. Dee was extremely proud of her family’s Portuguese heritage and was also a member of both the Portuguese Historical Society of Sacramento and the Woodland Cabrillo Club #26. Additionally, she served as a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, in honor of her husband’s military service.
Dee is survived by her sister, Ida, sons George (Roberta) Duncan III and Michael (Brenda) Duncan, and her son in law, Barry Turnbull. She will be reunited in Heaven with her husband Stanley, daughter Rita, parents Frank and Rita, and her siblings Frank, Manuel, Lucille and Alice.
Dee was overjoyed to be the loving Vavó (grandmother) to nine grandchildren – Marlana (Brian) Ruther, Trina (Steve) Krshul, George (Nicole) Duncan IV, Andrew (Beverly) Turnbull, Deolinda (Thomas) Turnbull-Porter, Catherine Duncan Hall, Cheri Duncan, Victoria (Daniel) Feuerstein, and Michael (Cyanna) Duncan Jr. Dee was also blessed with two additional generations of great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
Dee would be honored to have any memorial donations made in her name to the Holy Rosary Church.
Funeral Mass is scheduled at Holy Rosary Church, 575 California St in Woodland, on Tuesday, January 14th at 10:30AM, with interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
McNary’s Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Following interment, there will be a Celebration of Life held at Lillard Hall, 24901 County Road 95 in Davis, where friends and family can gather to share the cherished stories and memories that Dee has blessed us all with.
