A trio of Macomb County organizations are joining the upcoming Community Impact Day that is picking up momentum across the state.

Connect Macomb, Advancing Macomb and the Anchor Bar Chamber of Commerce are leading the May 13 effort for volunteers to engage in a wide range of hands-on projects such as landscaping, painting, repairs, organizing supplies, assembling kits and other service-based projects to meet local needs, according to Connect Macomb officials. Thirty nonprofit organizations are participating.

“With a shared goal of turning small acts of service into lasting impact, Community Impact Day reflects Connect Macomb’s mission to connect people, resources, and opportunities in ways that strengthen the region,” said Stacy Ziarko, president & CEO of Connect Macomb. “By coming together for one powerful day of service, we’ll create visible change and vital economic impact to benefit those who live and work here.”

Community Impact Day started with the Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce in Holland, Mich., four years ago and has swept across the state with 21 towns or counties slated to participate this year, including efforts in Grosse Pointe, Troy and Novi, in addition to Macomb, according to a media report.

The day also highlights the critical role nonprofits play in strengthening communities and supporting the local economy, officials said.

Presented by First State Bank, the event’s activities will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. May 13.

No special skills are required, and opportunities are available for individuals as well as groups of all sizes.

Volunteers can register at connectmacomb.com to select their preferred project site and activity by Saturday, April 30. Nonprofit organizations interested in hosting a project can also contact Connect Macomb through the link or call Ziarko at 586-292-5070.
