The city of Woodland celebrates National Library Week from April 6 through April 12.
“Libraries, librarians and library workers across the country are joining together to celebrate National Library Week under the theme “Drawn to the Library,” stated the proclamation passed during the April 1 Woodland city council meeting.
National Library Week was first celebrated in 1958, and it is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April. The week is a time “to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination and support lifelong learning.”
“Next week is National Library Week, so it’s just an opportunity to recognize the library and recognize them across the United States and their contributions to the community,” said Greta Galindo, director of Library Services for the Woodland Public Library. “I think of this one, especially as an invitation to come check out our library. We often hear people who are like, ‘I haven’t been there in a long time,’ or ‘this is my first time here,’ and so really, it’s an invitation to the public to come and experience all the things that are going on there and what we bring to the community. We are, I will say, the busiest library in the area by far and really proud of my staff for the level of service that they provide.”
“Libraries protect the right to read, think, and explore without censorship, standing as champions of intellectual freedom and free expression,” the proclamation states. “Dedicated librarians and library workers provide welcoming spaces that inspire discovery, collaboration, and creativity for all.”
The city is encouraging all to join the celebration at the Woodland Public Library. The library provides free Wi-Fi and laptops for patron use, an extensive digital and print collection, an adult literacy program, STEAM workshops, a dedicated Makerspace, engaging children’s storytimes and programs, teen activities, adult book clubs and special events.
The Woodland Library will host a Read, Rumble, and Rev event on Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All truck owners, operators, heavy equipment owners, and more are encouraged to share your industry with the community.
The event will be free to exhibit, vehicle attendants will have lunch and facilities provided inside the Library, and promotional materials appropriate for children, stickers, swag and giveaways are strongly encouraged.
The event gives local children and adults a chance to learn about the vehicles and industries in their community.
Read, Rumble, and Rev is different than a car show, as kids can interact not only with trucks and vehicles but with the folks that drive and operate them.
