Passed away on August 18, 2024, from a rare form of mesothelioma cancer.

Phil was born and raised on the East Side of St. Paul, the son of Francis and Augustina Brady. He graduated from Hill High School and Bemidji State College. During his college years he worked summers and vacations on the Empire Builder/ Great Northern Railroad and he loved telling stories about his experiences. After graduation, he moved out West, teaching high school and coaching football in Idaho and Nevada. He then worked in mines in Nevada and Arizona and attended the University of Arizona in metallurgy. He loved the West for the rest of his life. Upon returning to Minnesota, he worked for Ecolab for 17 years and then worked in the St. Paul Public Schools. He created beautiful gardens wherever he lived. He loved rocks, watercolor painting in his last years, hiking in Washington State, playing games and fishing with the grandchildren, and his name “PaPa Phil”. He is survived by his beloved wife, Regina Walsh and dear daughter Emily Sandalow (Sholom), with granddaughters Lila, Nava and Kaia. Also survived by loving stepdaughters and their families: Katherine Valaas (Robert), Eleanor, Margaret and Eliza; Molly Mattessich (Ernesto Gluecksmann), Mateo and Juliana; and Annie Ross, Benjamin and Jonathan. He leaves a brother, Gregory Brady, cousins, and many friends who supported us in these last two years. We would like to thank Dr. Anthony Polcari, all the doctors and staff at the Mayo Clinic, Shelley, Nurse Laura and the staff of Our Lady of Peace Hospice for their care of Phil in his last weeks.
