Passed away peacefully on the 3rd of October, 2024 in St. Paul, Minnesota at the age of 84. Dick was born on the 30th of August 1940 in Rochester, Minnesota. He was the third of seven children, born of Ruth and Kenneth Stewart.

Dick attended Holy Rosary School, Duluth, MN; Nativity of our Lord, St. Paul, MN and graduated from Saint Thomas Academy in 1958. He attended Nazareth Hall Preparatory Seminary and the Saint Paul Seminary prior to completing his undergraduate studies at the College of St. Thomas and St. John’s University. Dick graduated from Marquette University School of Medicine in Milwaukee, WI and began his practice as a pediatrician in Winona, MN prior to moving to Alexandria, MN in 1975. After practicing as a pediatrician for more than 25 years, he became a Level 1 trauma physician for the latter part of his career.

Dick had many interests, from woodworking and playing music to flying, sailing, and playing golf. He even raised chickens, kept horses, and made his own maple syrup. A devout Catholic, he was frequently caught sneaking off to weekday Mass and volunteering his time to help others.

Dick was also an engaged citizen and he served on the District 206 School Board for seven years. In the end, he most enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the lake and a simple life with his wife Patti on the farm. He will be dearly missed!

He is survived by his children Tim (Kathleen) Stewart, Maggie Weinkauf and Pat Stewart; grandchildren Greta (Nate) Scofield, Ben Weinkauf, and Will Weinkauf; brother George (Kaky) Stewart and sisters Kate Stewart, Pat (Denny) Winkle, Ruth “Candy” (David) Tripp, sister-in-law Deb Stewart, and former wife Cathy Stewart. He is preceded in death by his wife Patti, sister Peggy Chisholm, and brother Bill Stewart.

Visitation on Thursday, October 10th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 659 Voyager Drive, Alexandria, MN. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 11th at 1:00 p.m. with Visitation an hour prior at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Belle River, MN. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ruth M. Stewart Designated Fund at the Central Minnesota Community Foundation, the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Mary’s Catholic School, St. Nicolas Catholic Church or a charity of your choosing.
