ALLEN PARK >> The Lions have been putting on a show this season, including after scoring touchdowns.

Detroit’s celebrations have been a hot topic amidst its 10-1 start, and head coach Dan Campbell has no issue with what his players are doing.

But there is one condition.

“I don’t really get caught up in it,” Campbell said Monday. “I tell our guys, ‘Hey, as long as you don’t cost us 15 (yards), I’m good with whatever they do.’ They have fun with it. They are creative. They like to push the boundaries of whatever those are. I know our guys have fun with it, and I think that’s important.”

Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown added a fun celebration to the growing collection during Sunday’s 24-6 win over the Indianapolis Colts. The two reenacted Allen Iverson’s famous step over Tyronn Lue in the 2001 NBA Finals. Gibbs, who scored on the play, took the role of Iverson. St. Brown was Lue.

Other popular celebrations this season include St. Brown doing a headstand against the Packers and Jameson Williams dunking the ball on the goal posts against the Seahawks.

Campbell said he was never too elaborate when celebrating any of his 11 career touchdowns, at most going with a classic spike.

“They enjoy it, so it’s all good,” Campbell added. “But I haven’t seen everything. I haven’t had a chance to see everything, unless my wife sends it to me and then I get it. Look, I’m glad they have a good time with it.”

Like the Navy

Abbreviated weeks are a grind, and the Lions have been guaranteed to have at least one every season since 1945.

They’re experiencing one this week, with the Bears visiting Ford Field on Thanksgiving. Each team will be coming in on short rest, as Detroit topped the Colts on Sunday and Chicago fell in overtime to the Vikings that same day.

“This week always reminds me — listen, it’s no where even close to this thing, (but) it reminds me of Hell Week with the (Navy) Seals when you hear them talk about that,” Campbell said. “It’s like whatever they get, an hour (of sleep), and then the bell rings and you’re gone, you’re on to the next thing.

“It’s like every once in a while these power naps, you just hit it and then you’re up. That’s kind of where we’re at, man, just enough to refresh the brain and hit it again.”

The Lions haven’t won on Thanksgiving since 2016, when Darius Slay intercepted then-Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford to put Matt Prater in position to connect on the game-winning field goal as time expired.
