A 27-year-old Royal Oak man who called 911 to report he’d been stabbed by his girlfriend is facing several criminal charges for allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home in Madison Heights and shooting her.

The ex-girlfriend reportedly stabbed him in self-defense after he broke into her house when she wasn’t there, then attacked her when she arrived with her young child.

The alleged shooter, Jonah Lowe, and the injured woman are both hospitalized in stable condition, as reported Monday afternoon by Det. Lt. David Koehler of the Madison Heights Police Department.

According to a news release issued by Koehler, Lowe contacted 911 from his Royal Oak home shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 and said he’d been stabbed in the neck by his girlfriend. Another 911 call came in from a 25-year-old woman who said she was Lowe’s ex-girlfriend, he had shot her, she stabbed him in self-defense and he had fled the scene.

Officers responded to find the woman with a gunshot wound to her leg. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment, police said.

An investigation showed Lowe entered the woman’s house and hid until she returned carrying her 2-year-old daughter, then approached with a handgun pointed at them and refused to let her leave, police said. The woman was reportedly able to obtain a kitchen knife and, when Lowe was distracted, stabbed him in the neck, police said. Lowe reportedly shot the woman as she fled the home with her child.

The woman made it to a neighbor’s house to get help, police said, and Lowe fled to his home in Royal Oak.

With assistance from Royal Oak, Clawson, Berkley and Ferndale police departments, Lowe was arrested at his home and transported to an area hospital for treatment. The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office issued charges of:

• First-degree home invasion

• Discharge of firearm at or in a building causing injury

• Unlawful imprisonment

• Assault with intent to do great bodily harm

• Assault with a dangerous weapon

• Five counts of felony firearm

At Lowe’s arraignment Monday, bond was set at $1 million. Of the charges, first-degree home invasion carries the highest penalty — up to 20 years in prison.
