Peter Alexander Mandics, died at his home in Louisville, Colorado on September 1, 2024 at age 87.

He was born on May 29, 1937 in Budapest, Hungary to Peter Mandics and Muriel Darday Abriani Mandics. He conquered the daily challenge of Type 1 Diabetes for over 54 years.

He leaves behind his widow Agnes (Agi) Takacs, son Peter F. Mandics, daughter Susanna (Suzi) C. Mandics, son-in law Jason Dunckley and grandson Coltrane (Cole) Mandics Dunckley. Peter is preceded in death by his son, Robert T. Mandics.

Peter was a 1956 Hungarian Revolution refugee arriving to the United States in December 1956 with his older sister, Constance (Connie) Mandics, without knowing a single word of English.

He enrolled at the University of Colorado at Boulder in the Fall of 1957 and graduated in 1961 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Peter earned a Masters degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1963, and PhD from Stanford University in 1971.

He and Julianna (Julika) Marki married in 1968 in San Francisco, CA and divorced in 1994.

Peter and Julika moved to Boulder in February 1971 as he accepted a post doctoral position at NOAA's Wave Propagation Laboratory.

He retired from his role as Chief of Information and Technology Services at NOAA Global Systems Laboratory in 2007.

He married his second wife, Agnes Takacs in 1996.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday October 12th 2024 at 2 pm at Balfour Lodge (1331 E. Hecla Drive, Louisville, CO 80027).

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes.
