SAN FRANCISCO — The Clippers worked overtime to clinch a playoff spot — and send the Golden State Warriors to the NBA’s play-in tournament.

The final game to end the regular season was a big one for seeding in the Western Conference, with the Clippers beating the Warriors 124-119 in overtime Sunday at Chase Center to clinch the No. 5 seed.

The Warriors fell to No. 7 and will host No. 8 Memphis on Tuesday, with the winner earning the No. 7 seed.

Had Golden State won, the Clippers would have fallen to seventh. But James Harden prevented that with 39 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds to cap an All-Star season for the former NBA MVP and give the Clippers an eighth straight win and a 50-32 record.

“We’re a good team and we’re excited to show the world, but we’re a good team,” Harden said.

Harden hit consecutive 3-pointers in overtime, a pair of free throws and scored on Jimmy Butler’s goaltending to help will the Clippers to victory.

The Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard missed a free throw with 6.1 seconds left but made the next. The Warriors had one last chance, but Buddy Hield missed a potential tying 3-pointer.

Leonard posted 33 points and Ivica Zubac added 22 points and 17 rebounds.

Harden shot 13 for 23 and Leonard was 13 of 19 with three steals. They combined to shoot 9 of 16 from deep.

The Clippers have won the last seven games against the Warriors, including all four meetings this season, and three in a row on Golden State’s home floor. Leonard hadn’t played in the three previous matchups this season.

The Warriors got close Sunday to breaking that streak.

Steph Curry scored 36 points and made a 3-pointer with 2:06 left in OT, but turned the ball over the next time down the floor.

Butler added 30 points and nine assists for Golden State.

Norman Powell beat the halftime buzzer with a 3-pointer that put the Clippers ahead 60-58. Powell finished with 11 points, as did Kris Dunn.

The Clippers outrebounded the Warriors 42-25 — nine on the offensive glass to regularly create second and third opportunities.

The West bracket wasn’t set until a final day that had numerous teams in the running for numerous positions after the top three of Oklahoma City, Houston and the Lakers was already determined.

Denver regrouped after a chaotic final week that included the firing of coach Michael Malone and GM Calvin Booth to secure the No. 4 seed and home-court advantage in the first round against the Clippers.

The Lakers, Nuggets and Clippers all finished 50-32, with the Lakers having the tiebreaker to finish No. 3.
