Elizabeth Loucks Samson, born on December 21, 1931 in Pomona, California passed away peacefully at home at the age of 92. She was remarkably curious, enthusiastic, social and well-traveled woman with a wide range of friends and interests. Raised as an only child in Carthay Circle in an especially close family, Elizabeth attended Marlborough School in Los Angeles before continuing her studies at Arizona State University where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta. Her love of music began at a young age while playing both the cello and piano.
A passionate supporter of the arts, Elizabeth was a dedicated subscriber to the LA Opera, the LA Philharmonic, and the Colburn School for young musicians. Her love for art and culture was evident through her work as a docent at the Getty Museum, a member of the Fine Arts Club of Pasadena, the Pasadena Conservatory of Music, Camerata Pacifica, and as a volunteer docent at The Gamble House.
An intrepid traveler from a young age, Elizabeth explored the corners of the globe with her parents and continued her far flung adventures throughout her lifetime. A devoted opera enthusiast, she attended the Bayreuth Festival in Germany for many years.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Jack Samson.
In her later years, she shared her life with her companion Jack Stumpf, with whom she enjoyed traveling and attending cultural events. Survivors include her stepchildren, Ellen LaBarbera and Mitchell and John Samson, and her cousin Wendy Wolstoncroft.
She leaves behind a wide circle of friends who cherished her vivacious spirit, warmth, generosity, and zest for life. Elizabeth will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is laid to rest at Oak Park Cemetary in Claremont, California. Those who would like to make a donation, may send contributions to The Colburn School of Music.
