Vice President Kamala Harris’ Minnesota campaign this week announced that 30 Minnesota mayors — both current and former — have endorsed the Democrat nominee for president.
Among the mayors endorsing Harris are St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Brooklyn Park Mayor Hollies Winston, Moorhead Mayor Shelly Carlson, Stillwater Mayor Ted Kozlowski, St. Louis Park Mayor Nadia Mohamed and former Grand Marais Mayor Sue Hakes.
“We need more women in leadership who represent the people who will be impacted by the policies we advocate for,” said Moorhead Mayor Shelly Carlson. “It’s not always an easy path, but Vice President Harris’ journey shows what’s possible when you have determination and a vision.”
While most of the endorsements come from blue suburbs surrounding the Twin Cities, Moorhead and Stillwater are among a few exceptions. These mayors come from counties that were purple in the last presidential election. Biden won Clay County by 4% and Stillwater by 9% ,
Janet Williams, mayor of Savage, also appeared on this list, but as one of the mayors of a red county in 2020, where Trump won by 7% in 2020.
Former President Donald Trump has been endorsed by the Minnesota Republican Party along with all of its members of Congress — Reps. Pete Stauber, Brad Finstad, Michelle Fischbach and Tom Emmer.
The Trump campaign declined to identify any Minnesota mayors endorsing the GOP nominee.
