Pitt, Clooney trade banter at Venice Film Festival
George Clooney and Brad Pitt returned to the Venice Film Festival on Sunday for the world premiere of “Wolfs.”
Before hitting the red carpet, the Hollywood stars reflected on reuniting, the rise of streaming and Clooney’s New York Times op-ed urging President Joe Biden to end his reelection bid.
Most of the discussion was focused on the film, however, an old school action thriller in which they play lone wolf fixers unhappy to have been hired for the same job to cover up a bloody mess involving a district attorney.
The film will have a limited theatrical release, starting Sept. 20 before hitting Apple TV+ on Sept. 27.
Pitt and Clooney teased one another about age and relevance, with Clooney joking that Pitt is 74 and lucky to be working at his age. (Clooney, for the record, is 63. Pitt is 60.)
“As I get older, just working with the people that I just really enjoy spending time with has become really important to me,” Pitt said.
McKellen urges haste for more ‘Rings’ movies
Sir Ian McKellen is willing to reprise his role as Gandalf in the “Lord of the Rings” franchise, but it needs to happen soon.
“I’ve just been told there are going to be more films and Gandalf will be involved and they hope that I’ll be playing him,” the actor, 85, told Big Issue magazine. “When? I don’t know. What the script is? It’s not written yet. So they better be quick!”
McKellen fell in June during a performance in London.
He told the publication he wonders if the fall happened because of his age.
“I’m just trying to convince myself it was an accident,” McKellen said.
“I’m left feeling weak physically, which I’m doing exercises for,” he added.
“And, of course, it’s emotional. We all trip all our lives; it’s just when you get to my age you can’t always get up again.”
Adele plans long break after Vegas residency
It may be awhile before audiences say hello to Adele again.
The Grammy winner said Saturday during a concert in Munich that once she concludes her Las Vegas residency in November, she’s planning to take a lengthy “break,” according to video footage from the show.
“I have spent the last seven years building a new life for myself, and I want to live it,” Adele said, her voice trembling.
She added that she may not take the stage again “for an incredibly long time.”
