Daisy Store to hold Leap Day sale

The Family Service Agency of the Central Coast announced that The Daisy Store will hold a special Leap Day sale from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the store, 1601 41 St., Capitola.

The sale will feature 50% off everything in the store.

The Daisy Store is a volunteer-run, upscale-resale store that offers top quality donated women’s clothing and accessories at bargain prices. The store accepts donations throughout hours of operation. PG&E schedules March 6 virtual town hall

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. invites Central Coast and South Bay customers to a virtual town hall from 5:30-7 p.m. March 6.

The meeting will allow customers to learn more about work in your region, customer saving programs, safety and preparedness tips, according to a release from the utility. PG&E experts, including Regional Vice President Teresa Alvarado, will provide a brief presentation during which participants will have the opportunity to ask questions.

Museum opens April 12 Filipino exhibit

The Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History in collaboration with the UC Santa Cruz announced the exhibit “Sowing Seeds: Filipino American Stories from the Pajaro Valley” from April 12 to Aug. 4 at the museum, 705 Front St., Santa Cruz.

The exhibition shines a light on the Filipino American life on the Central Coast.

Four years in the making, the exhibition tells the story of Filipino migration and labor in Watsonville and the greater Pajaro Valley of Central California from the 1930s to the present.

Guided history walk slated for March 1

Join a free guided history walk at 11 a.m. Friday to hear history about Aptos and Seacliff Beach.

Participants should meet on the deck of the Seacliff Beach Visitor Center on Las Olas Drive.

This 90-hour walk is about one mile on a flat sidewalk and participants should wear comfortable shoes. Organizers also recommend that participants bring a hat, sunscreen and dress in layers.

Continuous rain will cancel the walk.

Chamber schedules April 11 ‘A Night of Stars’

The Santa Cruz County Chamber of Commerce will present “A Night of Stars,” an event that will showcase significant contributors in the community through the Community Recognition Awards.

“A Night of Stars” is scheduled for 5:30-9 p.m. April 11 at the Cocoanut Grove Ballroom at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, 400 Beach St., Santa Cruz.

Ticket prices increase from $140 to $165 starting Friday for individuals. Ticket prices increase from $1,050 to $1,300 starting Friday for a table of eight.

Honorees for “A Night of Stars” include:

Top Dog Film Festival set for Rio Theatre

The Top Dog Film Festival makes a stop at 7 p.m. March 23 at the Rio Theatre, 1205 Soquel Ave., Santa Cruz.

The event allows dog lovers from all walks of life to experience the enchantment and deep emotional connections shared between humans and their furry friends. This year’s lineup of films includes a diverse range of films that are sure to evoke a range of emotions from laughter to tears.

The event features a yappy hour to be held at 4 p.m. at Sante Adairius Midtown Portal, 1315 Water St., Santa Cruz. A portion of sales will benefit the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. For tickets and information, visit riotheatre.com. Tickets are $21 plus service fees.

Tree grafting workshop slated for March 3

The UC Santa Cruz Center for Agroecology presents Fruit Tree Grafting, an in-person workshop with Sharon Zo from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Cowell Ranch Hay Barn on the campus of UCSC.

Zo is a member of UCSC Center for Agroecology staff.

The workshop will cover the basics of rootstocks and scion selection, the importance of a sharp, quality grafting knife, safe use of such a knife, timing, and how to put the stock and scion together for best success with your graft.
