Illinois politicians: Quit taxing your poor residents to death. There are other ways to make money. Why don’t we tax people who work in Illinois but live in Indiana, Wisconsin and neighboring states? Why don’t we put higher taxes on the trucking industry? Trucks are harder on roads and put on more wear and tear on them than the average car. Why don’t politicians take a pay cut instead of giving themselves a raise? Also, why don’t they put their pension into a 401(k) so people are contributing money instead of the state?

Hats off to the late Eugene Polley, inventor of the wireless remote control for television. Even though our legislators tried to tone down some commercials, advertisers have found irritating ways around the spirit of the law. I’m so thankful for the mute button.

How much longer will we be subject to the comments from Joe about the big salaries of professional athletes and the high cost of going to games? Enough, already. If Joe really wants to watch live sports he should consider a minor league baseball game or high school or college football and basketball…
