Center Line, through the power of their star forward, Terez Holmes, pulled off a 58-55 upset of De La Salle on Saturday, Dec. 14 at Avondale High School.

The senior scored eight points in the first quarter, 12 in the second, 10 in the third and four in the fourth to lead all scorers with 30, helping the Panthers improve to 3-1 with their most impressive win to date.

De La Salle, which was coming off a hard-fought loss to Brother Rice less than 24 hours prior, started strong with a 17-12 lead out of the gate thanks to a nine-point quarter by star guard Phoenix Glassnor along with a pair of 3-pointers by Armoni Portis and Braeden Holder.

But as Glassnor’s production slowed, so did the Pilots — Panthers quickly answered, roaring back to take a 31-30 lead into halftime after holding the Toledo commit to just five points in the second. Again, just three other players scored alongside Glassnor, amounting to a 13-point quarter.

Meanwhile, while Holmes poured in 10 points in the second, he also got five from Isaiah Ashford and four from Kamren Higgonbottem to help supplement the star.

The squads entered the fourth quarter tied, 47-47, and while neither team was able to get much production in the fourth, Center Line got just enough to earn the statement win.

Ashford scored 11 points and Higgonbottem added nine. Chris Spivey provided the last four.
