Mayor James Snyder doesn't know his way around Portage like he thinks he does. Even when there was a hole on County Line Road, they claimed it was Hobart's side of the road. It wasn't. It was the Portage side of the road, because “County Line” means you divide it right down the middle. Also, if police officers and the city of Portage drove up and down they would have known that hole was there. Yet, they wouldn't do any repairs on my vehicle after I hit the hole. It screwed up one of my alarms. They said, “The state said we don't have to take care of things like that.” Fix the road. Then you won't have that problem.

During campaigning, President-elect Donald Trump said Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has been ineffective. Give us a break. The lawmakers of his Republican Party are the ones responsible for blocking positive changes that the Democrats and President Barack Obama have tried to make. Their behavior is illogical, irresponsible and mind-boggling. Do you really think that a smart, self-centered billionaire who has sometimes paid zero in income taxes and has no government experience can relate to the problems of the poor and the middle class? Heaven help our country.

I read the article on the Maria Reiner Center in Hobart, and I would like to say that if we could all donate part of the money to keep it open and keep it going for years that would make seniors very happy to do something educational, have activities, exercise and so many things. Just place your donation and it will help seniors for now and in the future. Also, remember that we all become seniors.

I had started buying the newspaper every day. I used to buy it only on the weekends for the last two or three years. I started buying it every day because I wanted to read Quickly. Now I have decided to go back to buying it only on the weekends.

A vote for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton was a vote for four more years of President Barack Obama.

I went to Bass Pro Shops and bought a hunting knife by Buck Knives and a pair of suspenders, both made in the USA. I've always tried to buy American cars. When I see they're made in Mexico, that turns me off. Ford is going to aluminum bodies on its pickup trucks. I've backed myself into the corner. I said, “I guess I'm going to have to buy a Toyota made in the USA.” That's sad. It's a shame what they've done to American steelworkers and American car factories. They pay people in Mexico pennies on the dollar. I'm sure they can't even buy wheels for one of those trucks. I guess the next time I buy it'll be Japanese.

I live in a small house in South Haven, and I walk up and down the street and pick up the garbage every day. I recently told a mother about her son throwing garbage out. She looked at me and said I have obsessive-compulsive disorder and I have a problem. Do I have a problem or is it the children of today? Also, I'm constantly picking up garbage.

My wife and I went to Bob Evans in Merrillville for breakfast Sept. 30. When we were finished having breakfast we asked for our bill, as we were ready to leave. Our waitress said some nice lady paid it and left. What a wonderful way to start the day on my wife's 89th birthday. Thank you.
