Jordan Spieth has been playing golf for a month without pain and plans to return from wrist surgery at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, ending his longest stretch without competition and looking at his time off as a chance to reset.
He first injured his wrist in May 2023 when the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon (ECU) would pop out of the sheath. It reached a point where he decided to have surgery Aug. 21 in Colorado to rebuild the sheath.
Spieth said he went nearly 12 weeks before he could hit balls, and then another month before he played his first round.
Spieth spoke on his way to practice at Trinity Forest in Dallas before going to the Cotton Bowl for the Texas-Ohio State college football semifinal game.
He contemplated playing next week in the California desert. Instead, his return — a little more than five months since his last competition — will be at Pebble Beach. It coincides with AT&T’s 40th year as title sponsor, currently the longest-running sponsorship among tournaments. Spieth has had a corporate relationship with AT&T since 2014.

NFL to play in London >> Cleveland, Jacksonville and the New York Jets each will play a home game in London in 2025.
The NFL announced the host teams. Their opponents will be revealed, along with dates and kickoff times, when the full 2025 schedule is released this spring.
The Browns and the Jets will play at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this fall. Cleveland is 0-1 in London, having lost to Minnesota in 2017. The Jets, who are searching for a new general manager and head coach, are 1-2 in London including a loss to the Vikings this season.
The Jaguars, meanwhile, will return to Wembley Stadium as part of a multiyear agreement to play one home game annually across the pond. Jacksonville is 7-6 in London.
Hurts clears protocol >> Jalen Hurts has cleared the NFL concussion protocol and will start for the Philadelphia Eagles in their NFC wild-card game Sunday against Green Bay.
The Eagles quarterback hasn’t played since he suffered a concussion and left a Dec. 22 game early against Washington.
Coach Nick Sirianni said that Hurts, who returned to practice this week, was out of the protocol and was “ready to roll” against the Packers.
Watson reinjured >> Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson had surgery after rupturing his Achilles tendon for the second time in three months and could miss the entire 2025 season.
The team said Watson, who has played in just 19 games in three seasons with Cleveland due to an NFL suspension and injuries, felt discomfort in his ankle after “rolling” it while in Miami. Tests showed he re-ruptured the tendon, requiring another operation.
Watson is expected to miss “significant time” in 2025, the Browns said in a statement. The injury further clouds his future with the Browns, who still owe him $92 million after signing him to a fully guaranteed $230 million contract in 2022.
