Resident of Pittsburg

John Hoggatt passed away with his family by his side on January 3, 2025. He is survived by Lynn Hoggatt, his loving wife of 58 years; his three daughters, Michele Ford, Monica Pruitt, and Dana Ayers; and one son-in-law, Jonathan Ayers. He was the beloved grandfather of five wonderful grandsons, Elias, Hayden, Caleb, Jacob, and Samson.

John was born on March 10, 1945, in Natchez, Mississippi, to the late Laura and John Hoggatt. He attended Holy Family Elementary School and later graduated from St. Francis High School in Natchez. He met the love of his life, Lynn, when they both attended Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and studied mathematics. The two were married on July 29, 1967, at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in New Orleans. The couple later moved to Pittsburg, California, where they raised their three daughters and were active members of Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

John was a statistician at the Concord Naval Weapons Station and retired after 28 years of service there. John loved listening to music, taking photos, eating chocolate, playing pool, watching the San Francisco 49ers, and supporting his daughters’ academic and athletic pursuits. He served his community at the Loaves and Fishes Kitchen in Pittsburg, where he was honored as Volunteer of the Year in 2003 and 2010. He is remembered fondly for his sense of humor, warm friendship and gentle smile.

Services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Good Shepherd Church, 3200 Harbor Street, Pittsburg.
