THE GAME: The Angels built an early three-run lead behind Jorge Soler’s hot bat then survived a ninth-inning rally from the Chicago White Sox for a 3-2 win in a Cactus League game on Friday afternoon in Tempe, Arizona. In the second game, left-hander Jack Dashwood gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth and the Angels lost to the Dodgers, 6-5, on Friday night in Glendale.

PITCHING REPORT: In Tempe, left-hander Reid Detmers pitched three scoreless innings. He gave up a single and walked two. He struck out two. Detmers, who is competing for the No. 5 starter spot, has allowed one run in five innings in two starts this spring. ... In Glendale, left-hander Yusei Kikuchi gave up two runs in 2? innings in his first start of the spring. ... Right-hander Chase Silseth gave up one run in 2? innings.

HITTING REPORT: In Tempe, Jorge Soler hit his second home run of the spring, a deep drive to center field on an 0-and-2 count. He also lined a double off the fence in left. In his third trip, he lined out to left field. Soler is 5 for 10 this spring. ... Luis Rengifo went hitless in two at-bats in his first game of the spring. He got off to a late start because of an illness. ... In Glendale, Jo Adell hit a grand slam in the second hitting, his first hit of the spring.

DEFENSE REPORT: Right fielder Mike Trout made his second start in his new position, and he finally got some action. After not handling a ball in three innings in his debut, Trout caught a line drive that was over his head and toward the line. He also caught a routine pop-up and cleanly fielded a single on one hop.
