A Lot! New Haven High School’s Automotive Program has undergone an exciting transformation with its recent partnership with General Motors (GM), becoming an official GM STEP (Service Technician Education Program) site.

This new collaboration offers students a fantastic opportunity to become certified GM technicians.

Thanks to our sponsor dealership, Heidebreicht Chevrolet in Romeo, students now have access to valuable real-world experiences and hands-on learning. General Manager Adam Vanover is also contributing his expertise to the program, offering valuable insights as part of the program’s Advisory Board.

In addition, GM is providing an online curriculum and specialized training sessions, which Auto Instructor Mr. Milton has integrated into the school’s curriculum to enhance students’ technical skills.

Students interested in pursuing a career as GM technicians can apply for co-op positions at Heidebreicht Chevrolet.

These positions, which are available after school and on weekends, give students the chance to gain practical work experience.

If a student demonstrates strong potential, the dealership may offer them a full-time position and send them through GM’s STEP program to complete their certification.

The best part? The training students complete during high school is directly aligned with the training GM technicians receive.

This gives them a head start in their careers, as the sessions they’ve already completed reduce the amount of training they will need to do in the future.

With this new partnership, New Haven High School’s Automotive Program is offering a pathway to a rewarding career, while equipping students with the skills they need to succeed in the rapidly evolving automotive industry.
