Freshman Isabella Alvarez scored a game-high 23 points, and the Watsonville High girls basketball team stomped Everett Alvarez 70-16 in Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan Division action on Thursday.

The Wildcatz (16-4 overall, 6-2 league), who finished with a season high for points scored in a game, remain in title contention with four games left in the regular season.

Watsonville is attempting to win its first league title since taking first in the Monterey Bay League’s Pacific Division in 2012-13.

Division leading Salinas (12-7, 6-1) has five game left, including a game at Monterey (5-9, 2-5) on Saturday.

The Wildcatz led 25-2 after the first quarter and 40-8 at the half.

Senior Fernanda Lazo 15 points for the Wildcatz. Senior Hailey Brooks scored 11 points.

Amani Hobson scored 10 points for the Eagles (4-12, 0-8).

Watsonville hosts Salinas (12-7, 6-1) on Monday at 7 p.m.

St. Francis 31, at Palma 26 >> Freshman guard Liliana Whitmeyer had a game-high 13 points and three steals, and the Sharks extended their lead in the PCAL Cypress Division to two games Thursday.

Sophomore guard Maya Calfee had nine points, five rebounds, four blocks, and two steals for the Sharks (18-2, 9-0). Freshman Keira Grio made a pair of free throws to seal the win. She finished with four points and two rebounds. Junior Natalie Stott scored five points.

St. Francis hosts Seaside (3-14, 2-6) on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Santa Cruz 61, at Soquel 22 >> Junior guard Karolina Espinosa had 17 points, five rebound, five assists, and three steals, and the Cardinals stayed in title contention with their Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League win Thursday.

Mila Conn had 15 points, six steals, and four rebounds for the Cardinals (11-9, 6-1), who finished with 16 assists and 21 steals. Nadia Delgadillo had 13 points and three steals, and Brooke Alden had eight rebounds, three blocks, two assists, and two steals.

Grace Graessle and Summer Shields each scored six points for the Knights (5-9, 3-4), who trailed 36-14 at the half.

On Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., Santa Cruz plays at Scotts Valley(17-2, 7-0), and Soquel plays at Aptos (11-9, 3-3).

Scotts Valley 58, at Harbor 9 >> Junior guard Sammy Rebbert scored 14 points, and the unbeaten Falcons won their SCCAL game Thursday.

Senior center Claire Skinner and junior guard Brooklyn Williams each scored 13 points for the Falcons (17-2, 7-0), who led 36-7 at the half.

Freshman Lia Lafrandt scored five points to lead the Pirates (1-15, 0-7).

On Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., Scotts Valley hosts Santa Cruz (11-9, 6-1), and Harbor plays at SLV (9-10, 1-5).

Rancho San Juan 53, at Monte Vista Christian 29 >> Senior Sophia Cortes scored 20 points, but the Mustangs were unable to keep pace with the Trailblazers in their PCAL Mission Division loss Thursday.

MVC led 11-10 after the first quarter.

Sophomore Alyssa Hernandez scored 15 points to lead the Trailblazers (8-9, 4-4).

MVC (5-14, 1-6) hosts North Monterey County (13-5, 5-2) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Boys basketball

Santa Cruz 70, at Soquel 54 >> Junior forward DeMarco Hunter had 34 points and 14 rebounds, and the Cardinals, who needed overtime to beat the Knights in the teams’ first SCCAL meeting Jan. 17, earned a more comfortable win in their second go-round Thursday.

Hunter made five 3-pointers. Senior forward Guerande Houssin had 16 points and six rebounds for the Cardinals (12-8, 6-1), who led 39-26 at the half.

Senior guard Nico Ramirez scored 16 points for the Knights (10-11, 3-4). Nolen Westfall scored all 14 of his points in the fourth quarter. Tyler Harway chipped in with 11 points.

On Tuesday at 7 p.m., Santa Cruz plays at Scotts Valley (10-11, 4-3), and Soquel plays at Aptos (16-4, 6-0).

At St. Francis 64, North Salinas 39 >> Nash Horton recorded his fourth triple-double of the season — and 13th double-double — in the unbeaten Sharks’ PCAL Cypress Division win Thursday.

Horton finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 steals. Mario Zermiano made six 3-pointers and scored 20 points for the Sharks (17-3, 8-0). Robert Gomez made three 3s and scored 17 points.

Scotts Valley 76, at Harbor 49 >> Alex Burgos scored a game-high 24 points, and the Falcons won their SCCAL game Thursday.

Scotts Valley scored 30 points in the first quarter. Jacob Sanders had 15 points and 12 rebounds — his seventh consecutive double-double — for the Falcons (10-11, 4-3). Will Shilling scored 12 points, and Taylor Knox chipped in with 10 points.

Freshman guard Hudson Bare and sophomore guard Malik Wooden each scored 11 points for the Pirates (6-14, 1-6).

On Tuesday, Scotts Valley hosts Santa Cruz (12-8, 6-1), and Harbor plays at SLV (4-14, 0-6).

King City 53, at Pacific Collegiate 48 >> Senior Thomas May scored 14 of his game-high 21 points in the first half, but the Pumas suffered a narrow loss in PCAL Cypress Division action Thursday.

Junior Ian Bulfin had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Pumas (2-11, 0-7). Junior Garrett Koontz added four points and eight rebounds.

PCS plays at North Salinas (10-9, 4-3) on Monday at 7 p.m.

At Soquel 3, SLV 0 >> Isela Gonzalez headed in a cross from Hailey Betterman for the decisive goal in the first half of the Knights’ SCCAL win Thursday.

Isis Tuttman finished off a pass from Kaitlyn Gray in the second half, and substitute Lani Gilbert followed up Chloe McGilvray’s blocked shot for the final goal.

Goalkeeper Ophilia Lewis, with help from her defense, Chloe Izenstark, Ashlyn Brady, Milana Flores, McGilvray, and Betterman, recorded the shutout.

On Tuesday, SLV (2-9-0, 1-5-0) hosts Aptos (10-2-1, 5-0-1) at 3:30 p.m., and Soquel (10-3-1, 5-1-0) hosts Santa Cruz (5-6-2, 3-2-1) at 7 p.m.

“I am so proud of our team,” Falcons coach Taylor Raymond said. “They truly worked so well together, it was incredible to watch.

Goalkeeper Evelyn Pini made seven saves before she left with an injury sustained in the second half. Her replacement, Tayanna Bonilla, made one save.

At Santa Cruz 2, Harbor 2 >> The Cardinals and inspired Pirates played to a draw in SCCAL play Thursday.

Sophomore Bella Talbott scored on the set piece in the first half for the Cardinals after freshman Lianna Cerdas was taken down 30 yards out.

Santa Cruz’s second goal came in the 45th minute.

Cardinals goalie Ari Flores, who missed her team’s last match while battling an illness, wasn’t 100%, but she returned and made three saves.

On Tuesday at 7 p.m., Santa Cruz (5-6-2, 3-2-1) plays at Soquel (10-3-1, 5-1-0), and Harbor (0-11-1, 0-5-1) hosts Scotts Valley (5-5-4, 2-3-1).

Guard Ian McCloskey, a grduate student, scored 12 points for the Banana Slugs (10-10), and senior guard Zino Okah scored 11 points.

Senior guard Kedrick Frink scored 15 points to lead the Sea Gulls (14-5), and guard Brendan Davis, a graduate student, had 15 points, eight assists, and four rebounds.
