Forward Blake Hinson and two-way forward Braxton Key turned in another stellar showing, and streaking the Santa Cruz Warriors beat the Texas Legends 127-116 in front of 5,975 fans at the teams’ NBA G League game in Frisco, Texas, on Tuesday.

Hinson had 28 points and 10 rebounds, both team-high totals, and recorded two steals for his third double-double of the season. Key had 23 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and five steals.

Santa Cruz (17-12 overall) began its seven-game road trip on March 12 fighting to get into the top six in the Western Conference standings in its bid to secure a postseason berth. And with its fifth straight win, the Warriors now have a chance to secure the top seed.

The Warriors are tied with the Valley Suns (17-12) for fourth place, 1.5 games behind co-conference leaders Austin (18-10) and Salt Lake City (19-11), with five games remaining in the regular season.That said, the playoff picture is quite volatile. The Warriors could, just as easily, drop out of contention. Seventh place Rio Grande Valley (16-13) is only one game behind Santa Cruz, and eighth place Sioux Falls is 1.5 games behind.

Santa Cruz and Texas (8-20) square off again at Comerica Center on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Hinson scored 20 points in the first half against Texas, which helped Santa Cruz jump out to a 72-58 lead at the break.

Santa Cruz totaled 37 assists against 12 turnovers. It shot 47.3% (52 of 110) from the field and outrebounded the Legends 52-44.

Guard Yuri Collins continues to command the Warriors offense, putting up 10 points, 11 assists, and three steals to record his third double-double in the past four games.

Two-way forward Jackson Rowe scored 19 points, and forward Javan Johnson scored 15 points. Two-way guard Taran Armstrong came off the bench and totaled 14 points, seven assists, and seven rebounds. Guard Alex Gil-Fernandez had 11 points and eight rebounds after coming off the bench.

Guard Zhaire Smith led the Legends with 22 points, five assists, and three blocks. Guards Jarod Lucas scored 18 points and Jordan Hall scored 17 points. Guard Jazian Gortman filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, and guard Garrett Denbow made four 3-pointers and scored 14 points.
