


UC Santa Cruz’s men’s basketball team will host the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament at Kaiser Permanente Arena, home of the NBA G League’s Santa Cruz Warriors, on Thursday through Saturday.
In Thursday’s quarterfinals, No. 4 seed UCSC (8-16) faces No. 5 Warren Wilson (7-19) at 11 a.m., and No. 3 Salisbury (11-14) faces No. 6 Pratt Institute (5-20) at 1 p.m.
In the semifinals on Friday, No. 1 Christopher Newport (22-3) takes on the UCSC-Warren Wilson winner at 11 a.m., and No. 2 Mary Washington (18-7) plays the Salisbury-Pratt Institute winner at 1 p.m.
The tournament championship is Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
All-C2C Conference >> UCSC had two players named to the 2023 all-Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference team. Banana Slugs senior forward/center Avri Finch repeated as a first-team selection, and senior guard Tyler Kessinger was named to the second team.
Mary Washington’s Greg Rowson was named Player of the Year.
Women’s basketball
C2C Tournament >> UCSC (17-6) is the No. 2 seed at the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, which will be held at University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on Thursday through Saturday.
No. 1 Christopher Newport (24-0) faces Thursday’s No. 4 Finlandia (11-11)-No. 5 Salisbury (7-18) winner in the semifinals on Friday at 2 p.m.
The Banana Slugs face Thursday’s No. 3 Mary Washington (20-5)-No. 6 Mount Mary (7-18) winner in the semifinals on Friday at 4 p.m.
The tournament championship is Saturday at 4 p.m.
All-C2C Conference >> UCSC had four players named to the 2023 all-Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference team. Banana Slugs senior guard Tess Oakley-Stilson was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
UCSC senior forward Kaylee Murphy repeated as a first-team selection, and senior forwards Amanda Inserra and Ashley Kowack were second-team selections.
Finlandia’s Natalie Bartle was named both the Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.

At the plate, Keldsen had three hits, five RBI and scored twice. Dylan Hawkins had three hits, two RBI and scored five runs. Brandon Swing had three hits, three RBI, and scored twice, and Carter Wright had three hits, two RBI, and three runs scored. Anthony Loredo and Cannon Silva each had four RBI.
At Scotts Valley 9, Christopher 4, 5 inn. >> The Falcons scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning Tuesday to win their nonleague game which was called early due to darkness.Jess Ringel was 4 for 4 with with three RBI, and Jack Sanders was 3 for 4.
San Lorenzo Valley 10, Watsonville 2 >> Nate Lapioli had three hits, two RBI and a run scored in the Cougars’ nonleague opener Tuesday.
Artem Wunar had two hits, three RBI, and scored twice for SLV. Blaine Mitchell had two hits and an RBI, Malakai Higbee had a hit and scored twice.
The Cougars host Alisal on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
Salinas 3, at Santa Cruz 2 >> Winning pitcher Manny Dorantes gave up two unearned runs and struck out seven batters over five innings against the Cardinals in nonleague action Tuesday.
Soledad 8, at Soquel 2 >> Cristo Barroso and Andrew Nichols each drove in a pair of runs to help sink the Knights dropped their nonleague opener Tuesday.
