Composer Danny Elfman, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and a handful of surprise guests return to the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles for three nights of Disney in Concert’s Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” on Oct. 27-29.
The concerts, which are performed live on stage as the film unspools on the Hollywood Bowl’s screens, present the full score and all of the songs Elfman wrote for the 1993 Halloween classic that marks its 30th anniversary this year.
“It’s impossible to believe it has been 30 years since Tim Burton made our strange little musical,” Elfman said in a written statement. “What a tremendous thrill it is to perform it live in concert again at the iconic Hollywood Bowl.”
In addition to Elfman, who reprise his role as the singing voice of Jack Skellington, the show includes a full orchestra and choir led by conductor John Mauceri.Surprise guest singers have not yet been announced. In the past, other roles were filled by performers that included Catherine O’Hara as Sally, Jack’s love interest, Ken Page as the villainous Oogie Boogie, and the late Paul Reubens as Lock, one of Oogie’s hench-helpers.
Others who’ve appeared on stage during “Nightmare” performances include Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers, and “Weird Al” Yankovic.
The Bowl itself gets a Halloween makeover, and pre-show activities include a costume contest, with Tim Burton-themed outfits encouraged, photo ops, and trick-or-treating stations.
Tickets went on sale Friday.
