Mason Borrego had three hits, an RBI, and scored twice, and St. Francis High’s baseball team, the defending Central Coast Section Division IV champion, opened its season with a 7-1 nonleague win over host Scotts Valley on Friday.

The Sharks scored three runs in the fourth inning to break up a 1-all game, and added three more runs in the fifth.

Micah Cervantes had three hits and scored a run for St. Francis. Nash Horton had two hits and two RBI, Javier Fonseca had two hits and scored twice, and Trey Silva had a hit and two RBI.

Junior Ibarra went two innings and earned the win. Corbin Giesen took the loss. He has six strikeouts.

Junior Quinn Turowski had two hits for the Falcons. Junior Jack Abel had a hit and RBI.

San Lorenzo Valley 6, Stevenson 3; 8 inn. >> The Cougars scored three runs in the eighth inning to win their nonleague game Friday.

Senior Blaine Mitchell had three hits, two RBI and scored a run for SLV (2-1). Junior John Clinkenbeard had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run, and sophomore Jacob Sanders had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored.

Senior Damian Aguilar started and gave up two runs over five innings. Senior Wyatt Berridge threw three innings and earned the win in relief.

Salinas 3, at Aptos 2 >> Nate Garcia was 2 for 3 with a double and run scored, and Brant Sirles was 1 for 2 with an RBI in the Mariners’ nonleague loss Friday.

Gabe Gaeckle threw three innings for Aptos (0-1), gave up two hits and one earned run, and struck out seven batters. Edward Peters went three innings, gave up one hit and two walks, and struck out five batters, and Josh Towley threw a scoreless seventh inning.

Senior Alec Ortiz had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored for the Cowboys.

Palma 3, at Monte Vista Christian 2 >> The Mustangs (1-1) gave up three runs in the first inning of their nonleague loss Friday.

Girls lacrosse

At MVC 14, Pioneer 1 >> Courtney Miller had four goals and two assists, and the Mustangs won their nonleague game Friday.

They’ve scored 14 or more goals in all four of their games and have outscored opponents 52-14.

Kyra Driscoll had two goals and four draw controls for the Mustangs, who had 10 players score goals.

The Mustangs (4-0) play at Carmel on Monday at 3:30 p.m.

College softball

Cabrillo sweeps DH >> The Seahawks swept a doubleheader at Shasta, winning 5-1 and 3-0 on Friday.

Third baseman Kasydi Bennett had two hits, an RBI, and scored twice in the opening game. Leadoff hitter Dillyn Vasconcellos a second baseman, had two walks, two stolen bases, and scored twice, and outfielder Liana Gonzalez had a hit and two RBI.

Daisy Ortiz struck out 12 batters over seven innings and earned the win.

Calli Turns pitched a three-hit shutout in the second game. Shortstop Aaliyah Gomez had three hits and an RBI, catcher Sofia Mendoza had two RBI, outfielder Madi Tara had two hits, and Bennett had a hit and scored twice.

The Seahawks (6-10) host No. 5 state-ranked San Mateo (16-3) on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Girls swimming

Harbor 105, at Santa Cruz 55 >> Kaylee Gooch won the 200 IM (2:27:85) and 100 breast (1:17:07) to help the Pirates win their SCCAL opener Friday.

Gooch also teamed with Serena Manildi, Moorea Robertson and Abigail Higgins to win the 200 medley relay.

Robertson won the 50 free (27:56), and Zia Jaggar won the 100 free (1:03:47).

Santa Cruz’s Renata Nobile-Orozco won the 200 free (2:14:34) and 100 fly (1:10:40), and Vanessa Marroquin won the 500 free (5:53:97) and 100 back (1:11:57).

PCS 69, Alvarez 6 >> Linden DesJardins and Ella Schuppek placed first in two individual events, and the Pumas cruised in their meet Friday.

DesJardins won the 50 free (34.00) and 100 back (1:36.12), and Schuppek won the 200 free (2:30.54) and 500 free (6:41.07). PCS’s Abigail Goodman won the 100 breast (1:44.31).

Eleonor Schwarzmann, Nastasha Kondrat, Schuppek, and DesJardins combined to win the 200 medley relay (2:42.69) while Goodman, DesJardins, Kondrat, and Schuppek placed first in the 200 free relay (2:14.80).

The Pumas face Rancho San Juan on March 14 in Salinas.

Boys swimming

Harbor 85, at Santa Cruz 79 >> Conall Barber won the 100 fly (1:02:25) and 100 breast (1:13:00) to lead the Pirates to the win in their SCCAL opener Friday.

Harbor’s Sam Primavera won the 200 free (2:10:47), Eddie Brooks won the 50 free (24:07), and Elias Keen-Server won the 100 back (1:04:97).

Santa Cruz’s Mattias Cruz won the 200 IM (2:18:50), Hayden Johnson won the 100 free (55:18), and Kees Van Der Meer won the 500 free (5:44:84).

PCS 68, Alvarez 6 >> Finn Levy, Jack McNulty, and J.P. Lee each placed first in two individual events, and the Pumas rolled in their meet Friday.

Levy won the 200 free (2:04.59) and 500 free (5:56.69), McNulty won the 200 IM (2:17.67) and 100 back (1:03.01), and Lee won the 100 free (51.78) and 100 breast (1:07.44).

PCS’s Shaash Shetty won the 50 free (25.80), and Levy, McNulty, Lee, and Shetty teamed up for wins in the 200 medley (1:54.62) and 200 free (1:40.84) relays.
