Luke Keaschall, a Watsonville native and Aptos High alum, will compete in the All-Star Futures Game at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

The seven inning game took place Saturday afternoon, after the Sentinel went to press.

Keaschall, a former standout at University of San Francisco and Arizona State University, was named to the American League Team as a replacement for Brooks Lee, who was promoted by the Minnesota Twins.

Keaschall, a second baseman and right-handed hitter, is batting .327 (102 for 312) in the minors this season. He has 33 extra-base hits, 38 RBI, 66 runs scored, and 19 stolen bases. He has drawn 52 walks against 66 strikeouts.

He currently competes for the Twins’ Double-A affiliate, the Wichita Wind Surge and is ranked No. 95 on MLB.com’s Top 100 Prospects list.

Andrews signs with Giants >> Free agent pitcher Clayton Andrews, 27, announced on Instragram that he has signed a contract with San Francisco Giants.

Andrews, a former standout at Cabrillo College and Long Beach State University, was outrighted to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders by the New York Yankees on June 26 and elected to become a free agent a day later.

“Thank you New York. Thank you Scranton … I’m coming home now,” wrote Andrews, who prepped at Maria Carrillo High in Santa Rosa.

The 5-foot-6 left-hander has appeared in five MLB games and holds a 19-9 record and 3.49 ERA over 193 2/3 innings in the minors. He struck out 263 batters during that span.

10s All-Stars >> Aptos’ 10s All-Stars, the District 39 champion, knocked off D-59 champ Santa Teresa 4-1 to open play in the Section 5 Tournament on Friday at De Anza Park in Sunnyvale.

Grant Candau drove in Fox Braley to give Aptos a 1-0 lead the first inning, but Santa Teresa knotted the score at 1-all in the third.

Aptos busted loose for three runs with two out in the fourth inning. Lincoln Cope got in a pick that allowed Jaxon Kazemi scored on a popup from Braley. Ashton Miller followed with a two-run single to drive in Lucas Kish and Cope.

Brady Cormier, Kish, and Deken Espinoza recorded a combined six strikeouts for Aptos.

Aptos plays the winner of Saturday’s Willow Glen (D-12)-Sunnyvale (D-44) game on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Sunnyvale.
