While it can be a divisive color, I’m a big fan of red and all its tints, shades and secondary colors.
The Unexpected Red Theory is having its moment, which gives me an excuse to inject a little red into rooms where it might be lacking.
Whether you’re looking to make a bold statement or prefer subtle accents, here are ways to incorporate these hues into your space.
Mix with your current color palette: You don’t have to go all out! Pink and red are versatile colors, and a little can go a long way when mixing them with your current color palette. Combine them with just about any other color to get the impact you desire — soft pink and dusty brown are subtle and sweet while red and cheetah pack a serious punch. The key is to find a balance that suits your style and the feeling you want to create.
Tabletop textiles: Table coverings, runners and napkins are all fabulous ways to incorporate a little color, especially one you might only want to keep around temporarily. Adding pink or red to your space through table linens can be a cost-efficient and fun way to style up your space and add a soft layer.
Pillows and bedding: A little pink or red in the bedroom can easily be achieved by a mix of pillows and, if you’re a fan of these hues, additional bedding like duvets, coverlets and quilts. Layering different textures and shades can also add depth and interest to your bedding ensemble.
Artwork: Add an unexpected touch by popping a space with artwork that features red or pink tones.
Accent chairs: An accent chair with an interesting pattern can be a great way to introduce a new color and pattern that will likely stick with you throughout the year.
Bold furniture: A bold piece of furniture in red can be a showstopper. A red chest of drawers can add a vibrant and unexpected element to your living room, bedroom or just about any spot in your home. Pair it with neutral surroundings to let the piece stand out, or coordinate with other bold colors for a wow effect.
